NOBS WORLD AUGUST 30TH

Good afternoon rugby fans through out the Nobs World.  Last Saturday we kicked off the second half of the season with our annual visit to Ottawa.  The weather was splendid, bright sun, warm with a pleasant cooling breeze.  The Nobs had a tremendous turn out with 19 players for the game!  The game started out in fine fashion with Eric Andrae picking off an errant Senators pass and dashing down the pitch for a score, with the game only minutes old.  Ottawa may not always have the strongest team on the road, but at home they are a solid side and soon evened the count with a try of their own.  We were able to put 4 trys on the board against the home team but they were able to match those and add a few more.  A good time was had by all and our host’s put on a tasty chicken dinner for us after the game.  We are currently trying to arrange a fixture at home with them in October.   This Sunday there is no game but there will be touch at 1pm in Burlington.  Sunday September 12th we are on the road for a game in Markham and then back home for our 10’s on the 19th.  Have a nice long weekend, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD "FRIDAY NIGHT EDITION"

Good evening rugby fans, where ever you are in the Nobs World.  Tonight  here at Nobs World Headquarters we are looking at temperatures in the high teens and then over this last weekend in August we are looking at temps in the high 20's.  The CNE is going full tilt, and parents everywhere are smiling with the coming of school.  So what's going on in this weekend you ask?  Well, what do the Nobs do on the last Saturday in August?  We make our annual trek to Ottawa.  Our nations capital and another visit to Twin Elm.  We'll give you the full update next week.  Touch will be going on Sunday in Burlington.  Please come out and not disappoint Jimmy.  last night we used the small field to the west end of the rugby pitch.  Some of you liked it, some didn't, and some had reservations about it.  After taking a poll of those who played up in the club house after training, we are going to continue using the field until we no longer can.  We would like to make a rugby presence there so that in the future it would be considered as a rugby field to the city.  I spoke with the women's members who used the field all summer and they said that other than the field becoming hard with the warm summer weather they liked it.   This field could serve us well over the winter.  The feeling I got from those who used it was that once the cooler, moister days of fall set in it will be fine.  Lets give it a chance.  One last thing.  After refereeing last evenings touch, I noticed that people where wearing jewelry and watch's.  Please take them off like you would for a game.  I would hate to see any of us cut, [or any of the shorter, young lads who come out from time to time] on account of this.  We can't have them on in a game, so lets not have them for touch.  That's it!  Like my Emperor for Life would say; "start thinking about the game !!'  So it's early to bed and early to rise for Ottawa.  See ya at Twin Elm, Da Thug

SAT. SEPT. 4th ONTARIO BLUES vs B. C. at Burlington. (Includes a University game and a 7-a side exhibition as warm up attraction)

The above day of rugby will provide some high quality rugby viewing.  Those that saw the Blues play the Brit. Police and then the English Counties will attest to excellent rugby from the Ontario lads.   It will be a day to be there.

Tickets for the ground are $15  but I have small supply of these tickets on sale to NOBS @ $10 each while supplies last.

Let me know ASAP if you want one and I’ll set it aside for you.   First come first served.

Press Release August 24th, 2010

September 4th, Burlington Centaurs Rugby Football Club announces a full afternoon of exciting, fast paced rugby.

The Ontario Blues and B.C. Bears will face off for what is now a game of pride at 4:30.  Although in 2009 they were runner up and winner respectively, this year they find themselves battling it out to not be the holder of the "Wooden spoon".    Both teams found the Atlantic Rock and Prairie Wolfpack much improved teams this year and Ontario the closest to challenging both winners thus far.  Over the years there have been many titanic battles between B.C. and Ontario teams of all ages and none more memorable than at the senior men's provincial level.  Places for the Canada "A" squad selection to go forward into the America's Championship, played in the weeks following the conclusion of the Canadian Rugby Championship are still open and there is much to play for.  After the great displays against the British Police and England Counties earlier in the year, the Blues will be out to prove their recent losses are a mere blip in performance and they are still the team to beat.  The Bears are also "licking their wounds" also after their losses and will be determined to prove they are a better team than Ontario.

Don't miss it, it is sure to be a "Firecracker" of a game.

Beginning at 1:30 the Guelph Gryphons meet the Brock Badgers in their pre-season trial game.  Both teams will be fielding a mix of veteran players from around the province and elsewhere and new rookie players coming into their respective university teams.  Many talented players will be not only "strutting their stuff" to impress the team coaches, but also for the opportunity to be spotted by the Blues and Canadian coaching staff.

At 3:15, an exhibition game of the now Olympic sport of 7-a-side rugby will take place between the Ontario Blues and Niagara Thunder.  The game will be played in the finals format of 2 ten minute halves with a one minute midway break.  Each team will have a squad of 10 players 7 on the field and 3 substitutes.

The whole area will fenced and licensed and food and beverages will be available all afternoon sponsored by the Dickens, Etalia, s.b. Prime and Rude Native restaurants.  These sponsors are also offering discounted prices for meals at their establishment's downtown with the showing of a game ticket or stub.

The field is less then 1km from the Appleby GO station so a great opportunity to ride safe and enjoy the afternoon. There is ample parking at or near the ground.  Sherwood Forest Park is at the end of Fairview Street east of Appleby Line, south of the QEW in Burlington.

General Admission is $15.00 on game day; group rates are available for advance purchase.  A limited number of Premium Admission tickets are still available for $50.00, please note 60% are already sold.  These Include, exclusive access to Balcony area centre field, access to Clubhouse during games, light snacks and 2 refreshment tickets and access to outdoor enclosed field area facilities.  16 and under enter free, will need proof of age.

Advanced group purchase general admission only: 20 tickets $200.00, 10 tickets $125.00, 5 tickets $65.00

Advanced sales for group booking may be made by contacting either Dave Burnett – Secretary at deburnett@sympatico.ca or call (905) 336-9545 or (416) 919-4118 or Barry Goldberg – President at bgoldberg1@cogeco.ca  or call (905) 320-0970

Craig,

I received this email yesterday and thought I had sent it to all NOBS.  As I did not receive a copy, I assume it did not go out.  There are many NOBS that knew Jonsie and will be interested in this sad news.

Please distribute.

Thanks,

NOBS WORLD

Gentlemen we now have use of the small field at the west end of the rugby pitch for touch on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.  This weekend we are off to the Nations Capital on Saturday.  Touch will still be on this Sunday but I think those of you who are not going to Ottawa should talk it up among yourselves to insure numbers.  Next weekend is the Labour Day weekend and there is no game but there will be touch on Sunday.  Sunday September 12th we are in Markham and then on the 19th it is the Nobs 10 Aside in Burlington starting at noon.  We will be looking for volunteers.  See ya at Twin Elms on Saturday, Da Thug

From: David Burnett [mailto:deburnett@sympatico.ca]

O.K. I have confirmation from the Women's Chair that they are finished with the field and we can use it as far as they are concerned.  I am also checking how long we have a permit for it.  We may or may not have to extend it for the rest of the season.  However, the Bubble will be up by mid October I think, more on that later.

We should tell Andy not to line the end zone anymore this season.

Last Thursday Game by Kevin

Ours is not the reason why - ours is to do or die.   Into Crusader

Park rode the valiant 16.  The Cru 4th (????) were young fast and ugly.  The NOBS had guile and a winger named Mant.  Like masterful fly fisherman we let them score a couple of tries and the float started to bob up and down.  Second period saw a couple of Cru join us as injuries kicked in.  Then the Mantster struck 2 tries at least 60 yards each.  We settled for a draw (Although we scored last).

The Cru provided a great evening and raised tons of money for Breast

Cancer.   The really good news is that no NOBS were caught in a dress.
