NOBS NEWS: May 1st

Well the domes are coming down. There is one more Tuesday afternoon session 4-5:00 tomorrow.

Thursday we will be outside. I believe we will be on the soccer pitch on your right before you come into the parking lot. If not there, then come to the clubhouse - 7:00 start

Speaking of showing up.....we had a very poor turnout for the membership night. In total - myself, Derek, Ryan, Brian, Nick, Chistina, Rolf, and Keith - that would be eight! I did hear from a few, with apologies. It is tough to plan events if there is little interest. Our survey said there was interest, but it appears it is easy to say "next time". We are open to suggestions and but expect some reasonable level of engagement. Derek has quite an array of spirits to still raffle off.

The plan this Saturday May 5 was to be In Oshawa, but it appears that we had a glitch in getting entered. - so, we are not. I reached out to Tek Ang of the Oshawa Runes and he says if you want a game, you definitely will be able to get one or two. I will send out the schedule that I got separately. Our friends the GITS will be making an appearance. If you are thinking of going let me know and I will connect you to others thinking about it.

Last note - thanks to Derek for arranging the CPR and AED training session. For those that attended, we have the power to save lives!

Thanks Phil

Looks like this one will get played!  We are 2-1-1 on the season having
beaten and tied MLR sides Houston and Utah, and won in Boston last weekend;
this will be a fun day, beer and food available, kids game at halftime, post
game party on campus.  Hope to see you there!

Best

Our eagle eye financial man (Rolf) identified we have still have DOME 1 for a few more weeks (04/26) !!! So we are indoors tomorrow and next week

Also eagle eye people noticed the Oshawa Old Boys tournament is SATURDAY, MAY 5 not May 6th as I communicated.

Final thing - CPR training is schedule at the clubhouse for Sunday April 29th.  We have a maximum of 10 spots available. The cost is $45/person.

NOBS NEWS: Updates

Ok this email has some important information, so read it all….Thanks in advace

  1. Touch – Nick Parks has arranged Tuesday touch in the dome for 3 more weeks starting tomorrow.  It will be form 4:00 to 5:00 and will cost $20 for the three weeks.

  2. Touch - For Thursday, we are field challenged until the fields are officially open (let alone weather challenged).  We are looking again at the dome, but we won’t have more info until later in the week.  There is a green space (part of an old soccer pitch) to the east side of the park by the baseball diamonds (where we player soccer last year).  They put a parking lot on the field, but there is still a good green space available.  You can access by car from Burloak on Prince William Drive – or run through the park.

CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR THURSDAY TOUCH SO YOU KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING.  GIVEN CONDITIONS THIS WEEK WE MAY NEED TO CANCEL (SAFETY FIRST!).  Thursday TOUCH, assuming it is a go and we are outside, will be a 7:00 start.

  1. OK now the business side – Membership Fees for 2018 – The Fee pays for fields, refs and other incidentals (like talking to Kieth!). The cheapest game in town!
    • $150 for full membership (Touch and Contact)
    • $65 Social

  2. To help everyone pay their fees there will be a Membership night on Friday April 27th starting at 7:30.  Try to make it out even for a short visit to rekindle the spirit.  That night we will be taking orders for new NOBs Jerseys. If you want your own jersey, come try one on so you can get the size right.  There will be raffles, some nibbles, and don’t forget paying your fees that night will get you a pint.

  3. CONTACT GAME Schedule.
    • May 6th is the first contact game.  This is the Oshawa Tournament, a great day out to shake the cobwebs loose.  We had a small contingent last year, but picked up players as we went.  If you are not a NOB, no worries come out and play.  Last year we had a few GITS and Hamilton players show up.
    • We are looking at a spring Fixture with Chambray.  Tentatively it is Monday May 28th – They are looking to host (field permitting)
    • Next fixture is then June 9 or 10 with the Silverbacks and GITS.  Still to be firmed up.

  4. Insurance – For contact players you need to get registered with ORU/CRU.  The cost is about $105 if not mistaken.  I Will provide more information.  For the NOBs home games we are looking at getting game coverage so then you do not need to be covered.  But, we cannot be sure the same will be true for other games.  Festival coverage will be in place for May 6th.

If you made with this far….we are done
Thanks
Phil

Hi Phil,

Please could you send this update out.

As most of you know, Chuck has been battling a brain tumour for the past 2 years. Chuck was part of a clinical trail and was the last of the original patients.    On Friday, Chucks treatment was ended and Chuck is now receiving palliative care at home.

I encourage everyone to visit Chuck, even though you will have to listen to what a  magnificent rugby player he is and his experience as King Yorkshire during his UNI time in England..

Please contact Teresa at 647-899-6954 for the best time to see him.

Kevin

Fwd: BIG Thank you!

Subject: BIG Thank you!

Hi Phil.

Craig and I would like to send on our heartfelt thanks to you for passing on my ALS walk sponsor page to the rugby family and a big shout out to everyone that sponsored me.
The extra 10 dollar match brought tears to our eyes.

To date the whole team of Craig's Thugs has raised $11,110.00 for the walk.  While our team goal was $2,500.00 and we have surpassed this, we are continuing to 'shoot for the moon' and work towards raising this total.

We would not have reached this total without the help of the Rugby family.

If you could pass our love and thanks on it would be appreciated.

Tracy and Craig

NOBS NEWS: Touch in the dome

Just a reminder of touch this Thursday (tomorrow) from 6:00 to 7:00 in the dome.

Also see the note from Nick about touch next week on Tuesday April 10. 4:00 to 5:00.
"Ladies & Gentlemen, Next week is the last Tues before the Dome comes down. A decision was taken last night after rigorous debate to get in roti's or curry ( I can't remember which ) and throw in a jug or two. Our uptight ex banker ( who is organizing the food ) needs to know numbers so please reply to this email with a "yes" or a "no" - if no reply will assume you are not coming and no food will be ordered for you. Nick"
