Hi All,

This Thursday night, July 29th, the NOBS are playing at the Cru vs the 4ths. There are four games planned for their 5th annual fund raiser for Breast Cancer. We are expecting to have a great turn-out for this event that includes TV coverage, politicians, prizes, auctions and a superb Prom Dress game.

I am asking for your very generous donations for this event. Players and non-players are encourage to provide their financial support. Please take 2 minutes to follow the link to get to Cristina’s donation page. http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=917423. There is an alternate link below as well.

You will get an email donation receipt right away. We can get Cristina way past her fundraising goal with your help. I know you can help with your kind donation of $20, $50 or $100.

I am looking forward to what is always a great match and I expect we will have plenty of players out that night. Game time to be confirmed.

NOBS, Let’s do our part for Breast Cancer.

Thank you in advance for your generosity,

Chris Mant

The Oakville Crusaders Women's teams are raising money for Breast Cancer. 1 in 4 women get breast cancer so think of four women who are close to you and chances are one will have to deal with the disease.

It is a fun way to raise money (see picture below). I don't know as yet if I'm going to venture on the field at my prime age of 52, but I just might! That will really be a show!

So my friends in rugby, please dig at the bottom of your pockets and please be generous to this worthy cause. All the donations will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, my club will not make money on this event (and neither will I personally ....Bob Nye, even if I'm Mexican)

Here is how, and for those of you who are internet travelers, I accept cash donations (and will forward a receipt to all)

NOBS WORLD JULY 16TH "LATE BREAKING NEWS"

Good afternoon rugby fans.  We have some news on two new fixtures.  We had earlier announced that we were going to play touch the next 2 weekends.  Touch is still on at 1pm this Sunday the 18th but next Sunday we are going to be playing our olde friends “the Muddy York” Final details are yet to be confirmed so stay tuned.  On Thursday July 29th we have also added a game against the Cru 4ths.  Chris will soon be putting out details on that evening. Nobs World continually receives all types of stuff that our roving reporters feel might interest you.  We are hoping that today’s photo won’t offend anyone.  See you on the pitch, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD JUL 14TH Nobs vs BOTSC Game Report

Good afternoon to all of you in the Nobs World where ever you are. Big weekend in the Nobs World, what with the soccer action and match with the Centaurs Under 18’s, but first a little note on what’s happening this weekend.  There is no game scheduled for this week but there is touch on the books for the next 2 Sundays the 18th and the 25th to be followed by Cricket on Sunday August 1st.  Don’t forget touch is still on every Tuesday and Thursday.  Stay tuned as Chris Mant is in the early stages of putting together a weekend touch tournament.

I’ll keep you in suspense a little longer on how last Friday’s soccer clash went until you read player/manager John Guilfoyle’s recap of the game.  Well done John.

Last Sunday it was the rematch of the Centaurs U18’s and the Nobs.  We thought it was important that we strategize; yes that’s what I said.  If there’s one thing that the young lads have that we could not match was speed.  Our plan was to limit our kicking and spread our defense across the pitch to prevent them from getting outside.  No point in kicking when they would repeatedly beat us to the ball and then counter attack with lots of space.  We were ready!  Within minutes of the opening kickoff they scored?  Captain Jason Leek rallied the side and told us to stick to the plan.  The unofficial score had us edging out the young lads but “our” referee had it figured out to be a tie.  There was a barbeque afterwards along with the World Cup final.  I’ll tell you one thing; when it comes to polishing off the post game spread we can’t touch the young guys.  They can eat it almost as fast as we can serve it. Don’t forget there is lots more to go before Labour Day, more soccer, cricket, golf, dragon boat races, Peterborough Platinum Oldies rugby, lots of touch, a game in late August in Ottawa and hopefully a fixture with the Cru in the last week of July.  Stay cool and see you out at touch, Da Thug

From: "Guilfoyle, John" PM

Subject: Nobs vs BOTSC Game Report

Game 1 is now history.

The NOBs started very quickly and in the first minute Mike Jefferies scored

with a brilliant header ... unfortunately it was past Chris Mant! But BOTSC

was obviously inspired by this sudden attack and returned the favour two

minutes later by scoring in their own net!

With opening game nerves we settled down to some attacking football.

Sweeping attacks by our strikers James Raynor and Roddy Allan put the Old

Timers under pressure. Particular mention of the corners by Roddy right in

to the 6 yard box every time. However the Old Timers proceeded to score two

additional goals in the first half, but we rallied with a come back goal,

and went into the half time 3-2 down.

The Old Timers piled on the pressure in the second half, but some stellar

saves by keeper Chris Mant (with the help of my gardening gloves!) kept the

attackers at bay.

Mention must go to some spirited runs and goal line defence by our back

line. MIke Jefferies determined to rectify the earlier rush of blood to the

head, and ably assisted by Kevin Bloska, Pablo Malacara and especially

Carrie Ciancone, defeated the attacks of the second half. So much so that

the Old Timers were unable to break through and we held on to a goalless

second half.

All in all probably the best half we have played in recent years, even

counting our amazing win last year.

We then returned to the club house to be hosted by the BOTSC, and the only

slight downer and not enough players returned to share a beer and lies in

the club house. Let us not forget our rugby tradition guys.

Next game, August 13, where now that we have figured out the way a soccer

ball bounces , we will probably go on to our second win in this intersport

series.

Thanks to all the players and the bar persons.

NOBS WORLD JULY 9TH, SOCCER, DRAGON BOAT RACING, UNDER 18'S, WORLD CUP

Good morning rugby fans.  The World Cup is on this Sunday but the big game they're all talking about is the Nobs vs BOSTC being played tonight.  The game is being played at Sherwood Forest Park.  The soccer pitch is at the far eastern end of the park.  To reach the park take Burloak [south of the QEW] to Prince William Dr which is the first street below the railway line on your right hand side.  The soccer lads have had almost a year to stew over our victory over them last August.  Mr Guilfoyle informs me that there are still spots available and he can be reached at john.guilfoyle@mohawkcollege.ca Better still just show up at the park at 6:30 pm.

Speaking of the World Cup it will be shown this Sunday in the Centaurs Clubhouse at 2:30 but before that happens there is the little business of us taking on the Centaurs under 18's and revenging our crushing loss last month.  Kickoff is "12:30 pm."  Touch is also being run this Sunday.

Last but not least is a note from Des Jordan giving details on this years Dragon Boat Races on August 15th.  See you on the pitch, Da Thug

 On Behalf Of Desmond Jordan
Subject: DRAGON BOAT AUG 15 -SIGN UP TONIGHT

Hi Folks,

The Annual Charity Dragon Boat Race is on August 15 so we need to start signing up paddlers and collecting $40 from each of you ASAP. Please money give to John Truman, Rolf Thomas Larry Doyle, Andrew Gaydon or myself. We take cash or cheque (written to Desmond Jordan as I have already paid for the first boat).

IMPORTANT -You can register your interest to participate online this year. Go to www.oakvilledragon.com

Look for the team name 'Nobbly Old Dragons' and click that you are one of us. This means all the other bothersome paperwork for waivers, insurance etc can be avoided as you click yes to these online.

Please also send me a quick email that you are on board. We hope to expand to at least two teams are we are co-ordinating Andrew Gaydon's Dragoons and we are hoping maybe to get some sponsorship from the Dickens Inn too.

VERY IMPORTANT –As this is a charity event you can also get friends to sponsor you through this online link. The main charity is again Halton Children's Aid Society.

NOBS WORLD JULY 5TH 2010 Fw: July 10 & 17

Good evening rugby fans; lots going on in the Nobs World so lets get to it.  Nice little run around in the heat yesterday.  Training in the hot weather will toughen us for this weekends game.  I have been receiving very positive feed back about the Limestone Tournament in Kingston last Saturday.  Haven't received our report yet from our man in the field Pablo so stay tuned.   Have you been paying attention to the World Cup?  This Friday the Nobs take on the Burlington Oldboys Soccer lads and Mr. John Guilfoyle wants you to be part of it.  Here's a chance to showcase your world class skills.  Get in touch with John ASAP and secure your spot on the squad.  john.guilfoyle@mohawkcollege.ca   There has been a change of plans for this Sunday's fixture with the Burlington Centaurs Under 18's.  No their not backing out but the kickoff has been moved up to "12:30 PM."  We would like to let everyone have a chance to shower and get the barbecue going in time for the World Cup Final that starts at 2:30.  Touch is also planned to be run this Sunday as well.  Last but not least we have received an email from Centaurs president Barry Goldberg about an opportunity for Nobs to take part in some Centaurs 3rd's games at a very reasonable cost.  If your interested let Barry know.  That's it for now but it's early in the week so we will stay on stand by if we need to deliver some late breaking news.  See you on Sunday, Da Thug.
