GROUNDHOG DAY / AGM SUNDAY FEBRUARY 2ND

Is just me; or do Americans have problems with the spelling of the English language. [No offence to our American readers] This Sunday is Groundhog day, when the NOB emerges from the pub and sees his shadow and realizes he still has 6 more minutes of drinking time.

On the same day, by mere coincidence, we have our AGM at 3pm in the Centaurs Clubhouse at Sherwood Forest Park.  You’ll get to hear the same questions over and over with the same results.  Come on out and have your say in our future plans.

FW:NOBS AGM SUNDAY FEBRUARY 2ND 3PM. Super Bowl Party

Good morning to everyone in the frosty NOBS World.  Great turnout yesterday for our Burns Touch run.  A little winter isn’t going to slow us down.   This  Sunday we will be back at it, at 1pm.

Following the touch is our annual AGM.  Come out and see democracy in motion.  All the action gets underway 1pm.

Six Nations gets underway this Saturday in the Centaurs Clubhouse with a doubleheader starting at 9:30am.  Sunday’s game is at 10am.  More details coming soon.

Looking for somewhere to see the Super Bowl?  There’s an email below laying out their plans for the big game.

See you on Sunday, Da Thug

SUPER BOWL TIME!!!!!!!

The teams are set: Denver Broncos vs Seattle Seahawks. Will Peyton Manning continue his lacklustre performance in playoffs, cementing his place ONLY as the best "regular season quarterback of all time"?! Will someone finally punch the Seahawks' Richard Sherman in the face for being the sorest winner of the year?!

Come on out to the Cru to find out! This year with snow on the ground things will start off with the annual Snow Bowl Game as the chilli warms up on the stove and the older, less capable athletes, will argue about how many times they can buy in to the poker game in order to beat one of the Rileys (my money is on Romy winning).

When

SUNDAY
FEB. 2, 2014
From 2pm to whenever!

Where

CRU Clubhouse

Snow bowl kick off at 3 pm, poker deal starts when enough players have thrown in enough money!

This will be a sanctioned 4th team event.

Cost: $5/person.

This will cover the cost of food and snacks (provided by Ryan, Spencer and Scott...remember, Nick McKay is not allowed near the chilli). Once we've recovered our costs for food, the rest of the "profit" will be spent on pitchers for the group

FW: NOBS WORLD JANUARY 24TH . BRAVE HEART, BRAVE MEN, BURNS RUN

You’ve got to admit; for 255 years old, he’s looking good.

This Sunday, January  26th at 1pm, Brave Men, with Brave Hearts will take to the frozen tundra of Sherwood Forest for our Robbie Burns Run.  The faint of heart need not apply as winter will test the intestinal fortitude of the participants.  The past month, the NOBS Sunday touch players [sounds like a theater group] have braved everything  Mother Nature has thrown at them.  Wearing every imaginable piece of winter gear, they take the field Sunday after Sunday.

Between now and Sunday we are expecting more snow and cold.  Sunday 1pm is calling for -11c, a sun/cloud mix, with winds out of the southwest at 28km.  Perfect.

Following this true test of character, we will retire to the warm and friendly confines of the Centaurs Clubhouse for roast turkey, potatoes, vegetables, gravy and of course Haggis!   Whether or not you take part in the run; all NOBS are invited down to join us.  Food will be served between 2:30 and 3pm.  Don’t be alarmed by the packaging dates, our wee beastie is freshly made.

Below is an email from one of our regular readers; Sue Morrison.  We would love to extend an invitation for Sue to come and join us on the touch line Sunday, for say; 10 minutes, and she will never again question our testosterone.  LOL.  Just kidding Sue.

See you on Sunday, Da Thug

I scoff too, as suggested the Emperor would.  You fellows are either getting old or soft.  I recall days when, in full regalia – toques, balaclavas, plastic bags around your feet, gloves, scarves and whatever shielded you from the cold – you guys would put your life and limb at risk on the frozen snow/ice surface, ignoring bone chilling wind just to prove you still had what it takes to go out and play with the boys.  Whatever happened to testosterone?

NOBS WORLD JANUARY 18TH 2014 "ARTIFICIAL TURF UPDATE"

The past month has been hard on Sunday touch run a rounds.  Mother Nature has not smiled on us; but when the NOBS get served up lemons; we make lemonade, and play on.  The Emperor would scoff at us to hear us go on about the playing surface's.  In the old days, in the park at the bottom of his road, we would play on ice, snow, frozen tundra, pools of water surrounded in mud, even the odd blizzard like days, all in the name of fitness!!  Times have changed and we are now a softer bunch, spoiled by the artificial turf.

Yesterday we sent out one of our NOBS World reporters on a fact finding mission to check out the playing surfaces.  Pleased to say, it looks like we will be back on the turf tomorrow.  Even the rugby pitch is playable!  Have a look yourself and see you Sunday, Da Thug

FW: NOBS WORLD JANUARY 16TH 2014

Some of last Sunday’s touch enthusiast’s,  enjoy a post-run snow cone.  Touch is on again this Sunday, so grab your kit and come on out.   While we’re on the subject of touch, next Sunday January 26th will be our Robbie Burns touch tournament, in Burlington at 1pm.  Looking forward to seeing everyone.

February 2nd is our AGM at 3pm in the Centaurs Clubhouse following touch.  Nominations are now open for this year’s executive.  “Ask not what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for  your club.”

Scottish troubadour, Jon Goldie has sent us an email for a Robbie Burn’s event in Dundas.  Check it out.

See you on Sunday, Da Thug

From: Goldie, Jonathan [mailto:jonathan.goldie@hp.com]

Craig - FYI - I’m playing guitar in the Winchester Arms in Dundas Burns night on Saturday 25th for anyone that’s interested. Haggis gets piped in for 6. Music at 8-12.

If you are planning on eating, then a reservation is recommended.

Cheers

Jonny

NOBS WORLD JANUARY 8TH 2014

OK; so who is the photographer taking this photo of?   Seems everyone wants to be part of the NOBS World. The little bit of the magazine article is interesting!

A few dates to pass on to you this balmy -14c sunny Wednesday morning.  Our annual AGM is Sunday, February 2nd at 3pm, following touch in Burlington.  There are a number of openings for the 2014 executive, so if you’re interested in running a nominations board is now posted in the Centaurs clubhouse.  We are always looking for new blood.

January 26th; NOBS Robbie Burns Touch Tournament.

Come join us Sunday January 26th for our Robbie Burns Touch Tournament at 1pm in Burlington.  This will be outside, so dress accordingly.  [Kilts are encouraged!”] We will be following the touch format we use for our Thursday touch league, with some winter rules thrown in.  The pipes will be wailing and after the games are put to rest we will say our praises to the haggis; and partake in the lovely delicacy.  There will be roast turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy as well.  Hope to see you there.

Two back of back weeks of action!

It may seem a long way off, but Saturday April 12th we are holding a NOBS dinner/dance at the Burlington Lions Club.  More details on this as it becomes available.

The 2015 World Cup rugby tour is moving along nicely.  Spots are staring to quickly fill up so if you’re still interested you can contact Jason Leek at jleek1@cogeco.ca .

There is touch this Sunday and we are expecting a heat wave of +4c.  See you on the pitch and especially the AGM, Da Thug
