December 8th there are plans in the works for a Christmas Rugby Party at 3pm, right after the Sunday touch.  More on this event in the near future, but we would like to see everyone’s kids, significant other, parents, etc.  Santa is booked and we hope to make this an annual affair.

See everyone in Brampton Sunday, Da Thug

Subject: Fwd: Thank you

I would like to send a big thank you to the rugby community for being there for Mark. The family was really touched by the number of rugby player that came to the service and the wake. I loved the fact so many players wore their shirts Mark would have loved  that. The last person left the wake after 1am Mark would have loved all the stories, laughter, wine and food.

The flowers from the rugby clubs were beautiful.

Thanks for making a difficult time a little bit easier.

Theresa, Kaz and Mish

FW: Sad news - Keith Grant

Ladies and gentlemen, we have received some sad news this morning.  Keith Grant who took care of all our needs in the Dome or out on the artificial turf  and became a good friend to the NOBS RFC, passed away this morning.

From: Barry Goldberg

Centaurs, Alumni, and Supporters:

I have just been informed by the Burlington Youth Soccer Club, that Keith Grant passed away early this morning.

From Dennis Leece of BYSC :

Unfortunately the BYSC lost a very Dear Member of its family early this morning.. Keith Grant passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his kids, family and close friends. He was a great friend to all and was a true Gentleman.

He will be Dearly missed

His Kids asked that they have a couple of weeks to mourn his loss and get adjusted.. I’ll be in contact with the family over the next couple weeks and will pass along all the arrangements to everyone once they have been decided.

Keith was rugby fan and as a part of the BYSC administration, he was a familiar face to the Centaurs and Nobs at Sherwood and was always helpful in finding us access to lights, extra time in the domes or just sneaking up for a coffee during the 6 Nations games.

I will forward on arrangements when they are known.

Barry

Fw: Game in Peterborough, Sunday, October 20th...

Don't miss out on a chance to bond with your GIT mates.  I was told that last years fixture was a rocking, socking event and the GITS would love to have you along to bolster their numbers.  Let Ray know at rayhopkin@gmail.com.  We have no fixture this season with the Krock's, so don't miss this opportunity.  Da Thug

So we have 10 confirmed, 25 have declined, and I'm waiting on another 12 to decide...

WE NEED YOU!!! Please, those 12, confirm asap, and can everyone please start seeing if any lads want to come out, I don't want to go up to Peterborough short, nor up there with the bare 15! If anyone knows a buddy that wants a game, drag them out. For those 12 who haven't responded yet, can you please do so asap so I can see who's coming and if we have the numbers. If anyone declined because they are sitting on the fence, or they just don't feel like playing, please reconsider!

A call to arms from Boyo to the troops to help out the Gits cause - don't disappoint!

So, the game is on Sunday, 1pm. I have room for 2 people in my car (although Balls isn't allowed in my car, and maybe someone who can read a map...) and can pick you up at either the Coxwell or Woodbine subway stations, and Jerry Marriott has room for 3, and you'll have to contact him for pick-up places (Jerry.Marriott@nbc.ca).

Anyone else have spaces for car pooling? We currently have 8 confirmed, 15 declined and still waiting on the rest, nice to have 12 more! - please respond asap!!

There is some discussion points, that you can see from the following email from the Krocks:

A bit of an early confirmation but i did want to give you the heads-up that we have no OKtoberfest event planned this year, so the fixture is Sun. Oct. 20th---GITs @ Krocks.
(you may recall we batted about a possible Sat. fixture and an Oktoberfest party afterwards).

Now, with our men's team knocked out of the McCormick consolation, there probably wouldn't be any conflict to use the field on Sat. the 19th is that works better for you guys?
The clubhouse is fully open and fully operational----hot showers/cold beer + great food & camaraderie (sp?)

Thanks,

EH

So, two points, first, do we want to move the game to a Saturday? Please reply to this email, allowing everyone to see it so we can start the discussion. It doesn't matter to me either way, but I think if we are to move it to Saturday, I think it's fair to let the Krocks know by Wednesday/Thursday. I would want at least 20 guys to confirm that they are available to play on Saturday by Thursday morning, otherwise it'll stay as a Sunday game, no ifs or buts.

Second point, if anyone is interested in taking a bus, or mini-bus, please be my guest, and organize it, because I won't. If someone organizes it, great, if not, use this thread to try and car pool!

Finally, the plans are gathering pace with the Gits end of year awards shin-dig. It'll be on November 15th at the Kilt & Harp, with Karaoke and games happening. I have sent out a FaceBook invite, and a Teamer invite, hopefully we'll see everyone out!

Yet another fantastic year, let's end on a high note!

A reminder that the XLs are hosting the weekly Old-Boys' game this Sunday (October 6th), at the Brampton Rugby facility. The usual 1:00 PM kick-off.

The Brampton field is located on the east side of Kennedy Road, north of Derry Road and south of Steeles (enter on the south side of the Powerade hockey arena). A map can be found on the BRFC website .... http://rugbybrampton.com/en-us/aboutus/contactus.aspx

 -----------------------------------------------

We will be taking this opportunity to celebrate our friend and comrade, Mark Radwanski. Mark's memorial was this past Wednesday; the room was filled to capacity. It was a testament to the respect and affection Mark generated in our community.

There were plenty of rugby colours amongst the crowd. We all adjourned to the Wheat Sheaf immediately after for a few toasts, and many joined the family later at their home.

For those that were unable to attend, we have attached the flyer that was distributed at the memorial.

Mark's wife (Teresa) and family will be joining us at the game this Sunday. Please come by and play ... our game was one of Mark's greatest joys.

NOBS WORLD OCTOBER 3RD 2013

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World.  The Staff College game is history now and it’s on to Brampton this Sunday, October 6th ; 1pm kickoff.

Last evening, the rugby gods smiled upon us, blessing the game, with beautiful weather.  A far cry from some of the past games.  No one who was there has forgotten the monsoon rains the game was played in 2 years ago.

Thank you to the Crusaders for hosting us, the food was delicious.  To all of you who pitched in to help serve it and to our referee, David Nelson.  Special thanks to Peter Allan and Jason Leek who put a lot of time in arranging the event and putting together the team.  Another great evening with the Staff College.

Don’t forget that tonight is the last touch run outside.  Starting next Tuesday & Thursday we are inside.

Also tonight following touch there will be a sendoff for Nigel & Katrina Morgan who are leaving us for Spain.

There is no game on the long weekend, but touch will be on in Burlington at 1pm.

Last but not least; this Sunday, don’t forget the game in Brampton, “YELLOW JERSEYS”.

See you all in 2 weeks, Da Thug.

ATTENTION DOMERS

I have been informed that tomorrow evening is our last touch run around.  Starting Tuesday October the 8th and Thursday October 10th we will be in the Dome.  If you haven't paid Rolf yet for your spot, come down this Thursday with payment at the Centaurs clubhouse.  In the next few days I will be posting the list of those who have said they wanted to play this season.  If you have not let us know your plans, contact John Noble at jnoble1@bell.net.  When I post the list and you do not see your name, let me know.  The Dome Ranger

NOBS WORLD, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 2ND, 2013

Good Wednesday morning to everyone in the NOBS World, where ever you are.  This is a big day for the NOBS RFC.  Not just that we are playing our annual fixture against the Staff College, but today we say goodbye to our beloved friend, Mark Radwanski.  This morning the Radwanski family, relatives, friends and the rugby world will gather to say goodbye to Mark.  This evening we will take time out before the game to pay tribute to Mark and a post-game toast.

Tributes have been pouring in for Mark from people all over.  It is quite over whelming.  Mark was highly respected as an opponent, treasured as a team mate, and we loved him like a brother.

It wasn’t always this way, how we felt about “Rad”.  When he first broke onto the old boys scene, some 17 years ago, he was fresh from the senior men’s league wars, battle hardened.  It’s only recently that we discovered he was also captain of the Toronto Saracens!  Mark looked like a cross between a lumberjack and Rasputin, with his long matted hair and shaggy beard, and he took no prisoners. To put it bluntly we didn’t like him.  He hit like a Mack Truck and growled while scrummaging!

Time has a funny was way of changing things.  He was first an opponent, them a fellow tourist, where we learned there was so much more to him, and then a team mate , who when the going got tough, he got going.

We will miss you Mark.  Friends through rugby, are friends for life.  Da Thug

Ladies and gentlemen.  A bit of confusion on my part.  The get together for the Nigel & Katrina sendoff is this Thursday, October 3rd, following the touch runaround [7:30 ish] in the Centaurs Clubhouse.  It is not tomorrow, Wednesday at the Cru as previously announced.  I stand corrected, Da Thug

Guys can you send out the following on the XL, NOBs and Saracen lists, plus any others you think appropriate.

Mark's wife Theresa has asked us to let everyone know that donations can be made to the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation at the following website:

Also there will be a number of us wearing our club jerseys for Wednesday morning's memorial service, and you are all encouraged to get your Saracen, XL or NOBs jersey out of storage ..

Finally, this weekend's old boys game is an XL home fixture in Brampton, and we will take the opportunity to make this a game of remembrance of our friend Mark Rad. Lets make this a great turnout, so whether you're intending to play or not, please make a point of coming out for the afternoon and enjoying some comradeship and swapping tall tales about Mark and the times we shared together. Kick off is at 1:00 p.m., and the bar will also open then for non-players.

Thanks
