FW: NOBS WORLD, ODDS AND SODS, JULY 31ST

Good afternoon to all of you, where ever you are in the NOBS World.  Just

A few loose ends from Sunday.  Our mate, Kurt Tamowski is missing his Nobs

jersey, old hoop style, short sleeves, darker green hoops.  Kurt and this jersey

have travelled many miles together and it has great sentimental attachment.

Mr. Bloska was seen wearing a similar one, but we have proof that he was also

wearing one upon his arrival, in a photo!  He is still under suspicion though.

If you have this jersey let myself of Kurt at tancan@sympatico.ca.

John Guilfoyle has found a green NOBS t-shirt.  If you are missing on let John

know at johnguilfoyle99@gmail.com.

Below is a 30 Anniversary greeting from our old mate Geoff Ellwan, now living

In Calgary.

The only thing on this week with it being the Civic Holiday is touch on

Sunday at 1pm in Burlington.  See you on the pitch, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD, MONDAY JULY 30TH

What a day we had yesterday!  You can tell by the smiles on the

NOBS 6 presidents, that we were having a good time.  Nobs young

and old gathered to take to the pitch in 3 highly contested contests.

As impressive as it was of the gathering of NOBS players yesterday,

we were equally impressed with the opposition that came out to

help us celebrate.  Thanks for coming out!

Thank you also to everyone who helped out yesterday, The Burlington

Centaurs, The Dickens, the referee and to Karin Pacione for the great

photos.  Da Thug

NOBS WORLD, FRIDAY AFTERNOON, JULY 27TH

Good afternoon rugby fans, from the NOBS World headquarters.  I had an opportunity to tour the Centaurs facilities at Sherwood Forest Park today and the pitch is looking to be in top condition despite the dry weather we have been having.  Recent rain and hard work by the grounds crews has it in good shape for Sunday

Speaking of Sunday, we are expecting temperatures of 25c and bright sunshine, with 0% prospects of rain.  Bring the sunscreen!

Everything gets under way at 12pm with the over 60’s game, to be followed by the over 50’s at around 12:30 and then the regular Nobs game around 1:15.

Be on time and ready to go.

See you Sunday, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD "30TH ANNIVERSARY"

Oh I can hear it now; “not more 30th Anniversary crap!”  Well get used to it as were just past the midway point in the year.  There is still 30th Anniversary Golf, Cricket, 10 A-side and our year end awards night, not to mention this Sundays games.  I know I mentioned to the current Nobs and anyone who also may have one to bring along our current green jersey.  If you’re playing in the 60’s  game, bring along your last playing jersey.

Below is a re-cap of our game with the BARFS last Saturday, taken from the Centaurs weekly newsletter.

See you on the pitch Sunday, Da Thug

“WARNING”  The photo included in the Centaurs newsletter may not be suitable for woman, young children and those of faint heart!

Subject: Week end recap

Centaurs, Alumni, and Supporters:

This past weekend saw some spectacular rugby played at Sherwood Forest Park .............however the Alumni were having no part of it.

Earlier in the day, the hallowed Sherwood Forest grounds welcomed its hero's from days gone by as the BARF's (Burlington Alumni Rugby Footballers) took on the NOBs. The NOBs looked resplendent as they unveiled their 30th Anniversary playing Jersey. The BARFs also looked the part as they ambled on to the pitch in new strip compliments of alumnus Scott Strapp and National Bank of Canada. The jersey's were donated to the club's 3rd XV after the game.

The game also marked a reunion for several of the BARF players as it was 29 yrs ago that the Centaurs U18's won the Ontario U18 championship with players like Gareth Williams, Nick Daniels, Andy Maunder, Joe Galasso, Tim Patterson and Tim Ellis.  With this group of rugby talent would BARF be all over the NOBs?

Bad word play aside, the answer would be....... no. The Nobs scored 4 tries to the Alumni 2. The BARF's struggled with the new laws ("I'm not lying on the ball, I'm just resting")  and more importantly struggled with breathing in the new jerseys,( damn you modern clothing technology and your form fitting ways!)

In the end, rugby and the eternal camaraderie it promotes was the true winner of the day. Thanks to Brian Chapple for his patience in referring the game and thanks to all that participated.

NOBS WORLD, JULY 23RD 2012

Good evening everyone, all across the NOBS World.  Big event coming up this Sunday with our 30 Anniversary Day games.  Before we get to that, let's talk about last Saturday and the NOBS  fixture with the Burlington Centaurs alumni, or as they call themselves now; The Barfs!   This was the second annual Alumni game, and a fixture I know the players love to participate in, a full slate of senior men's and woman's games, big crowd,  and a food and beer marquee right behind the NOBS bench!
This year we knew we would be in tough with the Centaur lads after we took the 2011 game from them.  The Centaurs had recruited some of the best players from their past teams and were prepared to do battle.  The bigger, younger  Centaur players would prove to be a  handful.
Led by captains Allen and Leek, the Nobs turned in one off their finest, disciplined games this writer has seen from this club.  Resplendent in the new NOBS, 30 Anniversary jerseys, the club went toe  to toe, punch for punch, with the Barfs.  To all of you who answered the call last Saturday; well done.

Next up now is this Sundays 30 Anniversary  games.  The action starts at noon, with the over 60's taking the field.  Looking forward to seeing everyone, Da Thug

Good afternoon to all of you in the Nobs World

I just got off the phone with Gareth Williams [seen above, watching the

Centaurs Alumni go through their paces at a recent training session] the

head  of the Centaurs Alumni, and he has asked me to remind everyone

of the 12pm. kickoff.  This is very important as we have only so much time

allotted to us, on the days dance card.  He also reminded me that last year

the car park was packed and some players arrived after kickoff, due to

having to take the shuttle from the GO station parking lot!!  Let’s get there

early and get dressed and start thinking about the game

To all of you who have ordered 2012 Anniversary jerseys, we are now

accepting payment of $60 for them.  You can either pay Rolf or myself

for them.  We will not be handing out any jerseys, without payment

There is touch this Sunday in Burlington, at 1pm as always.

Don’t forget next Sunday the 29th  it is our 30th Anniversary Day, kicking

off at 12pm.  See you on the pitch tomorrow, Da Thug

Craig, can you please send this out on my behalf.

Dave

Guys,

Some of you will well remember the Platinum Oldies in Peterboro of the past. They were great weekends and the NOB's were the heart and soul of the tournament.

I am working on putting a NOBs team (over 60's, but some of whom might play in the over 50's as well) together for the next event which will take place on August 18th at Peterboro's new field and clubhouse.

I have a few confirmed: Myself/McIntyre/Dermott(if fit)/Morrison/Parks/Bazz/Wooley.

However, I am looking for commitments from:

Jeffries/Guilfoyle/Morony/Morgan/Newcombe/Fleck/Miller/Nye/Thomas/Gardiner/ and any others that I have not thought of. All are welcome.

We are planning to drive down on the Saturday morning, games start at 12 noon. There is a dinner on the Saturday evening. Some will stay over until Sunday morning and others will return on Saturday.

Please advise your availability, and preferred time of return.

NOBS WORLD, SOCCER NIGHT IN CANADA

Good evening boys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, moms and dads, grandparents and all ships at sea, this Friday evening the Nobs and Burlington Old Boys soccer resume their annual soccer derby.  No less than the Emperor For Life; Mel Crossfield has asked me to remind you to get there by 6:30, dressed and warmed up.  Kickoff is set for 7pm, to be followed by food and refreshment up in the Centaurs Clubhouse.  The second leg of the derby is set for Friday August the 10th.
Keeping in mind that we are a rugby club, we have a game this Sunday in Markham at 1pm.  On the 21st of July; a Saturday, we will be playing the Burlington Centaurs Alumni Team.  I am not sure of the kickoff time, but I will pass it on a soon as I know.  On the 29th of July it will be our 30th Anniversary Game.  We are looking at having an over 60's game, over 50's game and then the 2012 edition of the NOBS RFC will take to field to play some of Ontario's finest old boy rugby players.
Last Sunday we hosted Lockport NY; who were assisted by a bunch of GITS!  A good game, with lots of scoring and big hits.  Sad to say we ended up on the short end of the score, but everyone is a winner in old boys rugby.   Two weeks earlier, we hosted Ontario's newest old boys club; the GITS.  This was another highly competitive encounter, but one where we came out on top of the score; but just.  When we travel to Toronto later on in the season to play them it had better be all hands on deck.
Don't forget about Fridays soccer, and get there on time.  The Emperor does not like to be kept waiting.  See you on the pitch, Da Thug
