NOBS WORLD "GAME THIS WEEK END AND JERSEY BOYS'

Good morning to everyone across the NOBS World; where ever you are.  First home game of the season is this Sunday against the GITS at 1pm.  GREEN jerseys will be the order of the day.  Before that gets going, there will be touch starting at noon.  For ALL home games this year, touch will be at noon.

Thank you to all of you who put in orders for new jerseys, green and yellow.  We are planning to put in our order this coming Monday, so last chance for all of you who haven’t put your order in.  Please remember, all paid up, playing members must have their own jerseys.  I have spoken with our distributor and the cost will be around $60.  Same price as 2 years ago.  He also has told me that the fit for these jerseys are different from our last order of yellow ones.  Whatever your t-shirt size is; that is your jersey size.  If I don’t hear from you, I will guestimate your size.

See you this Sunday and be on time, ready to go.  We can always use help to get the field and facility’s set up.  Next Sunday some of us will be in Franconia NH while the rest of us will be travelling to Markham, where Peterborough will be in town.  You will also be getting a schedule shortly as soon as we sort out a few lose ends.

See you on the pitch, Da Thug

FW: NOBS AND SODS MAY 23RD, 2014

Folks here is a helpful travel tip from one of our correspondents in the field; Brad Thomas.

……and wow!  The response for jerseys has been great so far.  I will be putting together a list and be in touch.  I didn't think so many were reading these emails.

Craig,

427 up to 401 and across is the best option. You can come down DVP or Victoria Park. The Gardiner will take forever and you wont make it if you leave Burlington at 11:15.

NOBS AND SODS MAY 23RD, 2014

Good afternoon to everyone across the NOBS World.  Be brave.  Rumours are it will be sunshine and warm for Sundays game in Toronto at East York Collegiate, the corner of Coxwell & Cosburn.  You can Google the school for driving instructions, but it is very accessible off the Don Valley Parkway.  Now, here’s the problem.  Left hand lanes on the Gardiner Expressway, east & westbound are closed!  Makes for a slow journey.  We are planning to shove off  from Burlington at 11:15am.  You are more than welcome to make your way there on your own, but plan accordingly.  An alternate route is to come across the 401 or 407 to the DVP and head south and go around the construction.  I will leave it up to you. “Remember your yellow jerseys!”

There is no touch in Burlington this Sunday, but next Sunday, June 1st we have a game in Burlington at 1pm.  Touch will get under way at “NOON”.

This season we plan on wearing our green jerseys, primarily.  If you don’t have a green or would like to update to a 2014 model, I would like to know.  It will be up to you to have a green one.   If you have a green and would like to get a yellow one, we can also do that.  I need to hear from you.

See you Sunday at East York, Da Thug

FW: Franconia

Gentlemen/Ladies

Franconia is fast approaching and we need a final tally of who is coming and when. I have been told by most that they are arriving Thursday so we will be having our traditional lobster cook out that evening.

Please, by end of this week, let me know if you are coming, whether you will be accompanied by significant other, and when you are arriving. EVEN IF YOU ALREADY TOLD ME OR ANYONE ELSE, I NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU TO CONFIRM FINAL NUMBERS. If you are arriving for Thursday I need to know if you will be joining us for the lobster cookout. And If you are, and you don't want lobster, I need to know whether you want steak or salmon as the alternative. FYI for those who haven't arrived on Thursday before, we provide lobster corn and much vino. Depending on price of lobster usually works out to about $35-$40/head.

Send me an email at:

Sounds like we have a good turnout this year and looking forward to seeing everyone (except Kev).

Cheers

Centaurs,

I have just been advised from the city that all grass fields are closed today/ night. We should also stay off the end zone areas as they too have water pooling and will be destroyed if we use it.

As we are now establishing a good rapport with the city and working on a second pitch, I am cancelling all practices that entail the use of grass area for tonight.

Please send out appropriate emails to our members.

On behalf of Mother Nature, I apologize for the inconvenience.

NOBS WORLD MAY 9 2014: NOBs tour to Italy in 2000's

Good afternoon to everyone, all across the NOBS World.  Something strange is happening outside the doors, here at the NOBS World headquarters.  It’s warm out!  It will also be; dare I say warmer on Sunday when we run touch at 1pm at Sherwood Forest Park.  On Sunday May 18th we’ll do it all again.

Touch got underway last evening on the soccer pitch we rent.   Questions have been coming in as to when we start.  We have the field from 7pm to 9pm, but we can always start beforehand if we have a quorum .  Tuesdays we are in the end zone of the rugby pitch.

I have also received word that 2014 registration is moving along, but we have a few noticeable people who have yet to sign on.  Our next game at East York on the May 25th is a no pay, no play event.  Chris Mant at chrismant@me.com is always available to take your registration papers and $.  Sign up and sleep well.

Chris Rideout; King of the Saracens has sent along this oldie, but goldie photo of the NOBS on tour in Italy.  Check it out.  Don’t forget Sunday and the mothers,  Da Thug

NOBS WORLD MAY 8TH 2014 Season Starting Reminders

Good morning to everyone in the NOBS World; where ever you are.  Finally the stiffness has gone out of my arms and we can get you a game report.

Let's talk about tonight's touch.  Once again this year we have soccer field #3.   When you are approaching Sherwood Forest, it is the very first one you come to on the right hand side.  There is a rental cost for this field, so we are charging a $5 match fee.  Please make every effort to pay as we found on Sundays winter touch, we would always be short, given how many played.  This field is only on Thursdays, and well worth the cost.

Our next fixture is May 25th at East York Collegiate, as the GITS host an East vs. West kickoff classic.  The next 2 Sundays, there is touch in Burlington at 1pm.

About last Sunday.  Great start to the season as we hosted an "All Comers"  game.  The field was in surprisingly good shape and we introduced our new referee; Ms. Heald, daughter of long time NOB and referee, Dave Heald.  Absolutely great having a referee who is right up with the play and doesn't fall for all the Oldboy's tricks.  Great to see all the bodies back off the injury list, which was quite long at the end of last season.  Nigel Davenport and Mike Olney returned to action after missing all or most of 2013.  Jason Leek looks to have shaken off last Decembers, knee surgery.  Phil Gray and Mark Platt, who ended the season of the injury list are both back in the fray.  Speaking of last Sunday's "Man of The Match", Mark Platt scored 3 trys and put in a strong game for both sides he ended up playing for.  Mark is living proof that you can spend the winter on the couch watching the kids grow, while you eat and drink and spend no time on fitness.  This is what make Oldboy's rugby so great and gives hope to everyone.

Registration is underway, but there are still those who need to get signed up and registered.  Below is an email from ORU President Dave Nelson, and he explains the need for everyone to be registered.   Come on out tonight and get registered or on Sunday or Tuesday.  2 weeks to the next game.

See you tonight, Da Thug

Good Afternoon,

I wanted to take a few minutes of your time today to congratulate you all for getting your clubs to the start of another season (or very close to it). Having done your job with my own club, I know just what you are going through irrespective of the size of the club you are leading.

There are a million things to remember and I am going to add one key one: the evil spectre of registration. NO PAY, NO PLAY.

We need to remind our people that being unregistered has more impact than just saving themselves some money. If they are hurt in practice or game, the insurance will not pay out. If someone is hurt and it is discovered another person practicing or playing was not registered, the insurance will not pay out (this can be someone from either team). It is an awful thing to think about but please help push the message to your directors, coaches and players.

With all that said, I wish you all the best of luck for a successful season, however you measure success in your club. Have fun on and off the field, enjoy our game and don't forget we cannot do it without the help of the referee (OK....a shameless plug here as I became one last year!).

As always, I am open to hearing from you all on whatever you would like to say.

David Nelson

President, Rugby Ontario
