Fwd: Nobs News: And more!

Nick reminded me of the following also this Sunday

Phil,

Also this Sunday the NOBS are invited to participate in Davy Jone & Terri's Stag & Doe Rugby Event at the club.

We have secured Rugby Festival Insurance for any players wishing to participate in a friendly game between club members & friends.

The game kicks off at 3:00 pm on the main pitch with food and games upstairs in the clubhouse afterwards.

All proceeds will go towards covering the food and towards the future Bride & Groom.

Cheers

This Sunday September 3rd there is still touch happening.  But, the main field is being used up to around 1:30 by Ontario Rugby for some 7's.

We have some contact games (note they are on Saturday):
1. GITS at East York Collegiate - Saturday, September 16 @ 2:00.  If you want a evening in the City, what a great opportunity!
2. Silverbacks/NOBs in Hamilton versus the GITS - Saturday, October 14 @ 2:00
We need to confirm numbers for the Sept 16th game.  So let me know you are in....

There is also a call out for Sept 30.  There is the Coburg Golden Rod, as well I heard from our friends in Buffalo about a Alumni game for over 40's in advance of their pub crawl.
We are also looking to have an all comers as part of McCormick cup day up at Fletcher's on Saturday, October 21.  We did this last year and despite the wind and cold was a great way to finish thing off.

The other week the NOBs took on the BOTSL in the second leg of the annual soccer game.  The twist was the game was half soccer and touch rugby.  It was a great evening and we saw some faces we have not seen around for awhile (always a good thing).  I believe the NOBs won the second leg of this epic battle!  Although, it could have been we need to provide the soccer side a few of our players.  Thanks to John Guilfoyle for organizing the event and to Rolf and Kevin for keeping us fed and watered.

Thanks
Phil

Nobs News: update

For the GITS game the kickoff is at 5:00 not 2:00. So you can get all the errand stuff done during the day and finish up with a game. Win win

All. John is putting out the call for this weeks soccer part deux!  Please confirm with John if you have not already.

Our game(s) are confirmed for Wednesday ... one half soccer, one half touch rugby. Dave Heald has agreed to referee the rugby.

Our field, 6:30 for 7:00 kick off, soccer first. Bring your green jerseys, or a green Tee shirt. Indian food after in the club room, fee of $5.00 per person, to pay for food and referees.

Let me know that you are coming, if you have not already confirmed.

Fw: NOBs Annual Cricket Match 2017 - The Match Report

Gentlemen

Need I say more.

Test cricket at its finest and a huge thank you to all

the gentlemen who stepped in at the last minute to make this

another successful NOB's fixture.

Same time next year then ?

Subject: NOBs Annual Cricket Match 2017 - The Match Report

Despite rumours to the contrary the NOBs Annual Cricket match went ahead as planned on Sunday 13th August. Our traditional opponents the Burlington Welsh Male Chorus were unable to field a complete side, but two of their number, Barrie Llewellyn (Baz) and John Griffiths (Griff) ,made the effort to come along and provide token representation for the the choir!

The two Ravis brought along a number of Sri Lankan players to bolster the numbers, and together with the NOBs that had committed to attend we managed to make up two sides, "Lucky's Nomads" and the "Clarence Brown All-Stars.

The traditional NOBs cricket rules applied, no-one could be out first-ball, any batsman scoring over 25 had to retire, and all team members had to bowl at least one over.

Clarence won the toss and elected to bowl, forcing Lucky's team to bat first, it was to prove a good decision.

We took to the field bathed in glorious sunshine, with the batting for Lucky's Nomads being opened by JP Ouellette.  JP proved that lack of classical cricket technique is no barrier to scoring runs and quickly amassed a total of 29 scoring 4 sixes, 1 four, and a single run..and then had to retire (thankfully).  Chuck Schandl then provided the comedy moment of the afternoon by hitting his own wicket, and being given out for 1 run. High scorers for the Nomads included Ravi with 26 Not Out, and Ivan with 22 Not out. The final total was 108 after 20 overs were bowled.

After a short "tea" interval (ie..sandwiches & beer) the All-Stars took up the challenge with Bob Cunningham & Derek Wiggins opening the batting.  Despite being hampered by a knee brace, Bob scored a workmanlike 7 before having to retire. Derek went on to score 30 not-out (including 3 sixes and 4 fours), Kishnan hit some magnificent power strokes to clear the boundary on a number of occasions retiring on 25 not-out, and the evergreen Clarence Brown worked his way to a hard fought 26 not-out. The wayward bowling of the Nomads proved to be their downfall with Extras (wides, byes etc) totalling 17 being added to the batting total of 92 for Clarence's team carrying them to victory with 109 runs one over to spare.

It was a great afternoon of fun cricket, and would have been made even better if we had more support from the NOBs membership in the form of players turning up.

A big thank you to everyone who played, brought extra players along, made food for the intervals.

Here are a few photos of the afternoon.

Many thanks,

Derek Wiggins

CRICKET MATCH IS ON

Morning all

Loose talk and "Fake news" about a possible cancelation of

the NOB's annual Cricket match was met with outrage and

condemnation by our membership with the result that we now

have overwhelming support for the fixture.

( Who does this sound like?)

Be at the clubhouse by 12.30 for a 1.00 start

As this match falls into the international test category

white attire is "de rigueur"

Afternoon tea will be complimented with refreshments

provided by players, guests and a mystery donor.

As Jimmy Savile would say " Be there or be square"

I was told, no cryptic messages, but nobody said anything

about being politically correct.

See ya there

Hi Rolf,

I got the e-mail below from John Truman regarding the cricket..😬.

Can you e-mail the NOBs membership and ask them to confirm their attendance at the cricket on Sunday directly with me (derekwiggins@hotmail.com), if we don't have enough numbers I will have to consider cancelling.

Thanks,

Derek

Hi John,

We're planning on having the annual Cricket Match on Sunday 13th August...can you let your members know, and then get back to me about a week before with a rough idea of numbers. It's a bit less notice than I would have preferred but we've got a lot of conflicting events this year unfortunately.

We'll be doing the usual format with the bar open etc...

Many thanks for your e-mail about Cye Beechey, all the NOBs send our best wishes for his return to good health!

Best regards,

Derek

Hello folks, after the Endoscopy/biopsy, the results are pretty much "We are
not going to  do surgery on the mass on the bowel ,it is not an
obstruction." "However the liver lumps are not curable". Sometime in mid
August, treatment to slow the growth on the liver will start, probably at JB
Burlington. Prayers welcome. Thanks. Cye.
