Subject: NOBS WORLD, JANUARY 22ND 2014

Good morning to everyone across the NOBS World; where ever you are.  AGM is this Sunday; more on that in a bit.

Sad news this morning.  Our friend and team mate Barry Goldberg's father, Jerry passed away on Monday January 19th at the age of 80 in Trenton Ont.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Barry at this time.

Last Friday was our Awards Night.  There was the usual high standard sing, song, featuring the likes of Bob Nye, Mel Crossfield, Andy Maunder and Running Bear, and the highly talented Derek Wiggins, who continues to dazzle us with his vast catalogue of rugby songs.   Oh yes; the Awards.  The NOB of the year handed out to the player who over the course of the year has done some bone headed thing to grab the prize.  Who can forget Steve Brooks tackling his own team mate down in Niagara.  We haven't Steve!  John Guilfoyle was all set to take the award, when a last minute submission trumped his screw up.  What was it that John did to be considered.  John is a class act all the way.  He could be only described as a gentlemen.  So; on tour last November in Bermuda while taking in the 7's a heavy rain broke out.  A number of team mates, good friends of his were with him and none had rain gear.  John had a spare rain poncho so who did he give it to?  An enemy of the state!  NOBs hater; Andy Terry.  Oh the shame.

This year's winner was none other than our president Kevin Bloska.  Seems a couple weeks ago after touch there was a problem in the showers.  Please keep your mind out of the gutter.  After playing with the taps, the flow of cold water could not be stopped.  It was decided [Kevin & Rolf] that the tool kit should be produced and the taps taken apart and mended.  The quick thinking Derek Wiggin's jumped up from his spot on the bench and solved the problem by turning off the cold tap!  Well done Kevy.  Another notch on your NOB of the year belt!

Rolf Thomas received the Clubman of  the Year.  A well-deserved honour for a man, who has given up so much of his time for this club, not just this season; but his whole time with the NOBS.  Well done Rolf.

The AGM is this Sunday in the Centaurs Clubhouse at 3pm; following the touch run around that starts a 1pm.  This is a very important meeting [as they all are], but this year there will be a changing of the guard with all positons open.  Come out and be part of democracy in action.

See you Sunday on the pitch and at the meeting, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD JANUARY 9th ALL THE NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

Good evening to everyone across the NOBS World. Lots to talk about, but just a reminder about touch this Sunday in Burlington at 1pm. Yes I know it's cold out, but the pitch is clear and no better time to get out and shake off the holiday blooze.

Okay here we go. THIS IS IMPORTANT NEWS, THUS THE UPPER CASE. This coming Friday, January 16th, a week from today it is the NOBS Awards Night. To all NOBS players, this is your night. Come out and make your teammates night miserable. Tickets are now on sale from any NOBS executive. Can giving money to Kevin be more fun?

Cost is $30. A night to spend with your mates. Who else understands you? Tickets will be on sale this Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. A good time to be had by all.

The NOBS AGM is quickly approaching. Sunday January 25th. A nomination board is soon to be posted in the Centaurs clubhouse. This is to be a very important meeting as we are going to be experiencing a change of the guard. All positions are open. We have a number of returning members, but we need your help. Get yourself nominated and let's go! Ask not what your team can do for you, ask what you you can do for your team. I can't express the importance of our players stepping up. We are a rugby club and the strength of it is our team.

The end of the sermon.

A couple of things, but less pressing. Mr. Tim Ellis reminds me that things are quickly are shaping up for Ft. Lauderdale. We have a champion ship to defend and this is only 6 weeks away. If you haven't been to Florida with the NOBS, you just haven't been. Let Tim know!!

The Dome. You have probably noticed that we have not had a Dome league put together as of yet. The executive has had a chance to look at this and we have decided that we will not have a team event until the end of the season. Things are going well and we would like to try something different. Stay tuned.

That's it!! See you on the pitch Sunday, Da Thug

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World; and a happy New Year.

Lots to talk about but first a reminder we are back on for Tuesday and Thursday nights in the Dome.  As usual for the hardier types, it’s outside on Sunday at 1pm in Burlington.

Here’s a little trivia for you.  It was on this day in 1883 that the Ontario Rugby Union was founded.    It was also on this day; January 6, 1955 in Consett Co. Durham England that Rowan Atkinson was born.

Not sure how that ties in with anything; but happy 60th Rowan.  Maybe we could send him some red shorts?

Rolf Thomas has asked me to remind everyone that our awards night is quickly approaching on Friday, January 16th.  Cost for a night of rugby humour, awards presentations, sumptuous Indian dinner and a rugby sing song is only $30.  Rolf or a member of the NOBS executive will have tickets, but we need to know soon as  we have rentals to arrange.  Let Rolf know at rolfthomas@live.com

The AGM is just around the corner on January 25th at 3pm after the touch run around in Burlington.  Very important meeting as there are many positions to fill.  Aboard will be going up shortly in the Centaurs clubhouse for nominations.  Ask not what your club can do for you; ask what you can do for your club.

With the new year also comes the annual visit to Ft. Lauderdale for Ruggerfest.  Tim Ellis is heading up the expedition as we will be going back to defend our crown we won last year.  Everything you need to know is below.  Don’t delay; let Tim know of your intentions.

Come on out and work off the holidays.  See you on the pitch, Da Thug

Craig, can you please forward this message to the crowd.

With Christmas and New Year now a distant memory it is time to start looking forward to our annual journey south to do battle on the pitch, get a little much needed sun, and maybe a beer or two. Ruggerfest is scheduled Feb 21st @ 22nd so plan on flying down on the 19th and returning on the 23rd. Flights are looking more reasonable than they have been in the last two years so get booked. The venue has changed this year to Mills Pond Park, 2201 NW 9th Avenue which is a lot closer to where we have stayed in the past. Due to the change in venue and an extensive poll of preferences I am looking at staying in either the Ocean Sky or the Ocean Manor,  the Ocean Manor is where we stayed in the past and the Ocean Sky is right next door. I am waiting on a final quote and then will send out booking info, plan on about $95 per night per person based on double occupancy. I am looking to build a Ruggerfest specific email list so as people book flights I can let everyone now arrival times to facilitate carpooling etc. If you are planning on going please send me an email to let me now at timothy.ellis@sympatico.ca.

Thanks
Tim
