5. AUGUST 21 Buffalo RFC

I heard from Chris Seiler of Lockport that  Buffalo RFC is celebrating their 50th this summer with a weekend of matches, picnics, etc planned for Aug 19-21. They will be hosting an over 50's friendly on Sunday Aug 21st. The Lockport O50 side - LARDASS - will be taking on Buffalo (time TBA, most likely 12-1pm) at Delaware Park. There will be a barbecue and plenty of beverages flowing throughout the day. If any NOBS would like to join in the fun and get a game in we'd love to have you come down.  Please pass my email address on to anyone interested, thanks --

If anybody wants more information let me know and I will pass on contact information, Phil

6. VISITING MIKE MORONEY
Last week I passed on some information regarding Mike Moroney.   David followed up with Elaine Moroney regarding visitors.  David is suggesting if you are able to visit Mike it would be appreciated.  But best to coordinate, Please see Elaines email below….

Hello, Dave:

Thanks for getting in touch with me about visiting Mike.  I asked him if he’d like to see some of the NOBS crowd and he nodded yes.  He is needing to sleep more so there are just a few windows when people drop in to see him.  I also have to warn the guys that he speaks very little and his facial expressions are very limited by parkinsons as well as the brain tumour.  But he is still Mike and he understands more than he says and he still recognizes people.  He has some time between 11:00 and noon when they take him in for lunch.  There is also a bit of time after his supper between 6:00 and 7:00 when I am usually there.  I don’t think he can handle more than 2 or 3 visitors at a time.  If people could call me when they are thinking of visiting Mike I could let them know if there are family in town and what would be a better time.  Right now our son is here until Sunday afternoon.  I know this sounds complicated but I would like Mike and his friends to get the most out of a visit while he is still aware.

Sunrise is on the west side of Erin Mills Parkway just north of Burnamthorpe and just south of the 403.
The best way to reach me is on my cell phone 905-601-8756.
I very much hope some of the NOBS can make it in.  It has been such an important part of his life.

Best,
Elaine

This wonderful photo was taken yesterday by a resident in Sunrise.  That's Mike's devoted friend Frank Buckley.  They've known each other since they were engineering students.  These lovely woods are right next to Sunrise.

By Leonard Cohen:

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget the perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

A dear friend sent these words to me which seem so true for Mike.

Love,
Elaine

NOBs News: July and August Events

I hope the summer is going well for everyone.  We are hitting about mid-summer so thought it was a good time for an update on the NOBs and events.  First, business - As you are aware Chuck recently had surgery to remove a tumour.  Needless to say his recovery and well being is utmost.  Chuck has been at the club and looking good (for Chuck that is).  Chuck has decided to step down as President of the NOBs and concentrate 100% on recovery.  The Executive met last week and decided to promote David Tait from Vice President to President, and I have stepped in as Vice President.  The appointments were unanimous and all off the Executive is committed to pitch in where required.   Enough business!

TOUCH – Touch continues Tuesday and Thursday @ 7:00, and Sunday @ 1:00 - Sherwood.    We are having good turnouts!

CONTACT – Our next contact game is August 14 against the GITS.  Last year we only fielded 3 player for this game – we can’t have a repeat.  So look at your calendar, we will start to beat the drum early for a good turnout.  Tim is starting to fill in the Fall schedule.  We do have the 10-A-Side on September 25.

SOCIAL – We have a number of upcoming events including our annual soccer game, golf outing and cricket.
Soccer 1 – Friday August 5 (more details to come)
Soccer 2 – Friday August 19 (more details to come)
Golf – Saturday August 20, Hidden Valley, 12:30 (more info to follow)
Cricket – Sunday August 28th (no touch that day)

Stay tuned…..
Thanks
Phil

Subject: BERTIES vs Stratford Black Swans - Saturday, July 9th in Stratford

Phil,

The BERTIES are calling upon all available NOBS for support in the upcoming fixture this Saturday, July 9th in Stratford vs the Stratford Black Swans.

The BERTIES are significantly short on numbers this Saturday.

This is Stratford’s 25th Anniversary Weekend and they have a big club day organized around the game.

We are currently looking to move the game time to a 3:00 pm KO.

Their pitch is located at 151 Lorne Ave E in Stratford, ON N5A 6S4. 151

organized around Stratford are always great hosts and are really looking forward to the game this Saturday.

Can you please distribute this to the NOBS email list and help rally the troops to the call of rugby.

Cheers

Nick Manz
