This is the first of two emails we talked about distributing to the NOBS on Colin's behalf.

Thanks Marc

Hi  everyone,

Finally it's here.  The tour looks great and the price not too bad considering our dollar.  I have 24 players listed above+ spouses and water boy's, Ha Ha .  We will have three games, so that would be close to the maximum players I  think we would all want.  Depending on response, we can widen the field for more players and tourists to get to our max of 57. ( cheapest route).  I know I  have left a few folks out but misplaced my total e mail list somewhere.

It will have to be on a first come basis as I expect a large response.

Please read through the itinerary as it also includes optional tours.  We will also be visiting Vimmy  Ridge Memorial on May 14th and lay some wreaths to commemorate the Canadian battle.

If you decide you're interested I will need a $300/person deposit to hold your spot.  As I will have to pay 30% of the total bill in November, I will be asking for more after the summer.

Please send all cheques to

Any  questions, please e mail me.

Thank you

Fellow Centaurs,
As most of you know, we have lost a great Canadian Rugby icon and a true gentleman to the game of Rugby.
After our Practice on Thursday night, please join us in the clubhouse and  raise a pint to Thank and say good bye to our dear friend Monty.
There will be an open Mic for anyone who wishes to say a few words about the man who helped build this Club and never stopped promoting the sport of Rugby.
The floor will open up at 9 o'clock, so please come and help us and give Monty a Centaur send off.

God Bless Monty

Good morning to everyone across the NOBS World; where ever you are.  2 important fixtures coming up, one this Saturday, the 16th and then another next Friday evening, July 24th

First a reminder.   This Sunday, touch returns in Burlington at 1pm, after a 1 week sabbatical  due to many of our members attending the Pan-Am 7's.

This Saturday at 10:30am at Fletchers Field, the Toronto Scottish will be holding their annual "Old Blues", Alumni game, vs. the GITS.  All of you are invited to take part as the GITs are looking for players to help swell their numbers as many of them are Scottish Alumni and will be playing for their olde club.  Traitors!  This has  become a regular fixture on the Oldboy's circuit and promises to be a knockdown, drag it our affair!   There are not many games over the next 2 months, so you won't want to miss this one.  As an added bonus; there are a full slate of senior men's games scheduled to follow.  A great day of rugby.  If you have any questions, contact Ray Hopkin at rayhopkin@gmail.com .

Our first leg of our annual derby vs. the Burlington Oldboy's Soccer Club is next Friday evening in Burlington at 7pm.  Below is an email from team manager John Van Gaalfoyle [dam United fans] with everything you'll need to know.  Rugby Saturday, touch Sunday and soccer next Friday.  Lots to do, Da Thug

Subject: NOBS vs BOTSC

Hi Craig,

Could you please pass on to the general list.

__________________________

Gentlemen (and Lady Nobs),

It is the time of year when we eschew the vagaries of the oval ball and take up the round ball in the annual meeting with the Burlington Old Timers Soccer Club (BOTSC).

Manager John Van Gaalfoyle has arranged two fixtures, home and away, both at Sherwood on the rugby pitch.

Friday, July 24 and Friday, August 7. Be there at 6:30 for a 7:00 kick off.

A modest contribution of $5:00 covers food and the referee. Mackenzie is eagerly awaiting your patronage.

We need 16 players for each game, and the keen ones already have their names in and are plying the manager with Guinness.

A hint of the line-up, we expect some South African influence this year ... and Neil Gilhome has promised to come out of retirement!

Confirm your place with John in person, or

BURLINGTON, PROVINCIAL, AND NATIONAL RUGBY COMMUNITIES MOURN THE LOSS OF MONTY HEALD

With files from Rugby Canada Communications

It is with great sadness that Monty Heald, Rugby Canada's longest serving President (1991 – 1999) and one of only two Honorary Life Members, passed away on Friday July 10 at home with his family around him.

George "Monty" Heald was born in Derby, in the East Midlands region of England. He first became involved in Rugby at Royal Masonic School, Hertfordshire, in 1949 playing for the Colts team. Upon graduation from school, he played for Derby R.F.C. over a fifteen year period as well as for Greengarth R.F.C., and Ashbourne R.F.C.,

Monty immigrated to Burlington, Ontario in 1968 and moved to Puslinch in 1971.  He played for the Hamilton Hornets from 1968 to 1972, and captained that Club in 1971.  The Burlington Centaurs Rugby Club was founded in 1973 and Monty became a founding member and the Club's first captain.  He also served the Burlington Club as its second President, a position he held for four years, and ultimately became a Life Member of the Club. Monty's playing career concluded in 1988 as he had already become involved in the administration of the Game at a number of levels.  He served the Niagara Rugby Union as the Director of its Senior Team, and the Ontario Rugby Union as a selector for two years (1979/80).

In 1981, Monty became a National Selector and chaired the Canadian Rugby Union Selection Committee for the period 1983 to 1994.  In 1984 and 1985 he was appointed as the Manager of the Canadian Sevens team which played in the Hong Kong Sevens.  In addition, in 1984, he was appointed as the Manager of the Canadian team and he served in this position for Can-Am matches in Chicago (1984), Tucson (1986) and Seattle (1990).  His managerial career was highlighted by the seven match tour to Australia, in June, 1985, in which the Test matches in Sydney and Brisbane represented the first ever meetings between Canada and Australia.  Monty was also the manager of the first Canadian team which participated in the CANZ (Canada, Argentina/New Zealand) series (1989) taking the National team to Argentina and New Zealand.

Monty was elected to the Board of Directors of the Canadian Rugby Union in 1986 and served as Director of The National Team for the period 1986 – 1991.  He was elected as President in 1991 and he served in this capacity for eight years. In 1995 the Pan America Rugby Association (PARA) was formed and Monty served as the Canadian Rugby Union's initial representative including two years as PARA's President. The National Union underwent many significant structural changes during Heald's term of office resulting from the Boards and staff efforts to maximize the many opportunities which were created including those in the Marketing and Communications area as well as in the tremendous growth in the number of domestic players, and the growth of the Women's game, both domestically and internationally.

The number of international fixtures involving Canada increased by 160% over the period 1990 to 1999, as Canada prepared for and participated in three Rugby World Cups, in 1991, 1995 and 1999. Monty's concluding term, as a Director, in 2000 brought his total years of service to the National Union up to twenty.  He was inducted into the Ontario Rugby Union Hall of Fame in 2004 and in 2013 Rugby Canada inducted him as its second Honorary Life Member.

Up until last year, Monty was still actively involved in the Rugby community, coaching at the Waterdown High School and serving as Chair of Rugby Canada's Past Presidents committee, Chair of the Hall of Fame Committee and member of the Annual Awards Committee of Rugby Canada.

A celebration of Monty's life will be held in a couple of months. Letters of condolences can be sent to Una Heald at  #19- 25 Hamilton Street South, Waterdown, Ontario, L0R 2H4

Regards

Nick Manz

It is great sadness, I have to announce the passing of Monty Heald.  Monty helped found the Burlington Centaurs and was past president of the CRU.  Another great Rugby Man has gone.  He will be missed by the NOBS.  Craig

This was just sent out from work. If you could please pass on the information to those that may not have heard yet. There will be a private family service with another function at a later date for everyone else to celebrate his life.

Ciao
Carrie

For those of you who have been part of the Monilex Sports Family it is with great sadness to announce the passing of Monty Heald.  Monty along with Lexie Tynan started Monilex Sports 30 years ago because of their love of Rugby.

After a long but hard fought battle with cancer Monty surrounded by his family at home passed away peacefully.

Thank you

NOBS WORLD July 9th 2015Fwd: Ft Laud Ruggerfest 40th Annual feb 19-21,2016

Good evening to everyone in the NOBS WORLD, where ever you are.  The GITS where in town last Sunday and a fine day of rugby it was.  A hard hitting, free wheeling, high scoring game, that saw the GITS come out on top.  NOBS Man of the Match; Ryan Morrison was even defeated in the post-game drink off.  That would never happen on Denis Thomas's watch!

There is no game this Sunday, but as usual touch is on at 1pm.

There is no game on the agenda next weekend, but the GITS have extended an invitation to participate in the Toronto Scottish "Old Blues " Alumni game.  Next Saturday at 10:30am at Fletcher's Field.  A number of the GITS will join their Scottish brothers, so the GITS are looking for support.  GITS who have participated in the Centaur's Alumni game, say it's the same happy crowd.  Sounds like fun.  A full slate of senior men's game follow.

Below is an email from Tim Ellis.  Plans are already underway to take part in the 40th FT. Lauderdale Ruggerfest.  Tim's already heard back from 9 players, ready to go. Check out the dates, and start planning.

Take cu, Da Thug

Team, want to start planning the 2016 trip down to Lauderdale, please save the dates. In honour of the 40th anniversary of the tournament I would like to do a commemorative jersey/kit. Let me know if you are interested and I will start putting together some pricing.
Thanks, Tim

Craig, can you send to general membership, thanks.

            Ruggers and friends,
Welcome to the 40th Annual Ft Lauderdale Ruggerfest, Feb 19-21,2016. We are going to have 40 teams for our 40th year celebration and we want your team to take part.
Last year while the entire country was below freezing and record snowfall we had balmy 75-80 degrees, perfect rugby weather. Gibe your team a jump start on the upcoming season and yourself a break from the miserable winter weather and join us for the fun.

                                                                        Aloha,

Happy Canada Day to everyone across the NOBS WORLD; where ever you are. When my son saw this he said you look like an old GIT. I resemble that fact. But I happen to like the GITS. This Sunday at 1 PM GITS are in town. Touch is also on. Something for everyone hope to see you all there. Da Thug
