HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY

Top of the morning to ya; do the Irish really say that?  Happy St. Patrick’s Day where ever you are in the Nobs world and especially to all of our Irish friends.  The 17th of March is a great day in Nobs lore.  It was on this day in 2000 that the Emperor for Life Mel Crossfield led the troops into battle with the Prince of Wales Club in Santiago Chile.  The Nobs have skirmished with the Americans on this day in Savannah Georgia and of course the legendary opening games against the Irish to kick off the season.  This Sunday we will be having our Saint Paddy’s day touch run, on the artificial turf in Burlington. I can hear the old timers scoffing right now.  “Back in my day we played real rugby, whatever the weather and what ever the field conditions.”  Times have changed and now pitches aren’t available till May.  If the luck of the Irish is with us you may get a chance to run with the legendary Irishman; Mike Moroney, a man who refers to me as Da Tug!  Hopefully he will be over the Welsh fiasco.   Big night in the Centaurs clubhouse tonight.  Get your green on and get your self down to the club.  Ok, a couple Irish jokes to round this up.

Young Fiona Fogarty is pregnant with twins.  A month before her scheduled delivery date her water breaks and she is rushed to hospital.  As she is rolled into the delivery room she passes out.  When she awakes she sees that she is no longer pregnant.  She spots a doctor in the room and asks him, what happened to my babies?  The doctor says they are fine: you had a girl and boy, but there was a problem. Concerned, she asks what happened.  The doctor says, when they were first born, they were very sickly and we were worried that they wouldn’t live and we wanted them named so we could have them baptized and given their last rights so we called in your brother Dermot to do it.  “DERMOT” she shouted; he’s as thick as a brick and that is when he’s sober, which isn’t often.  So what did he name them she said?  The doctor responded, well the girl he called Denise.  Not bad she thought; Denise Fogarty has a nice ring to it.  What did he call the boy?  Da Nephew replied the doctor… Bet you saw that coming.  What do they call a fake diamond in Ireland?  A sham rock!!  We’ve got so many more but our time is up, see ya tonight in Burlington, Da Tug

Good morning one and all; wherever you are in the Nobs World.  It’s Saint Patrick Day’s Eve, the day when the LCBO and Brewers retail cancel all holidays and days off to have all staff on hand for the pre Saint Patrick Day’s rush.  The young lass above and our favourite Super Gnome are all dressed up for the big day want to let you know of the Saint Patrick’s Day event in the Burlington Centaurs clubhouse tomorrow.  Let’s, let the Super Gnome tell you what’s going on.  Da Thug

Hello boy's and girl's!

We are almost done for the season and will soon be able to romp around outdoors - fantastic!  However, there are a couple of things in Bubble kingdom to attend to first.

This Thursday March 17th is a very special occasion.

1) It is St Patrick's Day and ALL participants are obliged to wear the green in the clubhouse post game.  The Dickens is supplying food at a very reasonable cost.  Club members with the Dickens card $2.50 (The card is also a Centaurs membership/loyalty card)  No membership card $5.00  If you are a (NOB - aren't we all!) and don't have a card you best speak nicely to me.  "Being a Centaur has its perks" - Barry Goldberg, club president.   We are hoping for some additional entertainment, but we are waiting for confirmation.  Massive prizes for best dressed Leprechaun - honest!

Bejaysus, sea yer all Tursday and dun't fergit tu ware the green (Irish lingo, you see I am multy talented after all).

Good day Ladies and Gentlemen.

Just a note to bring everyone up to date with what is going on at Centaurs World.

This Saturday, the 6 Nations is back with Italy taking on France at 9:30 and Wales vs. Ireland at 12:00.   Sunday, England entertaining Scotland in the Calcutta Cup at 11:00.  Sadly we have been forced to cancel our newly discovered lower cost feed.  Premium Sports advised us we were using an illegitimate feed as they have sole rights to publish this event in Canada as PPV.  Please take a moment to read the attached letter from our club president.

Next Saturday March 19th will be the final day and it is a triple header - bring your own headache medicine!  however there should be some excellent rugby to watch and quite a lot at stake for the competing teams.  Scotland vs. Italy at 10:30, Ireland vs. England at 1:00 and France vs. Wales at 3:45  Why so late you ask - our day light saving time begins March 13th, Europe is at the end of the month.

Senior Men's practices have begun in earnest and the new coaching tiumvate led by Lee (Fester) Stallan, with Stuart Riley and Chris (Alfie) Alford leading the way.  7:00 in the gym, then into the dome at 8:00.  The final decision regarding Ontario league formats has now been made and we will be in a NRU league this season.  This presents a fantastic opportunity to win the league and play for promotion back into the Ontario leagues again - Let's do it!

The women have, courtesy of the BYSC, secured a better field for Thursday practices this year, it is a bit of a jog to get to, but will be a worthwhile improvement.  Details on training have not yet been released.  They are recruiting for players, so if you know any lady interested in coming out to play rugby, get them interested in Centaurs rugby now.

The junior division is now out from hibernation and we can expect a significant activity in getting their 20-11 campaign into high gear in the next few weeks.  Mike Howes and his team will be pushing hard to fulfill Boy's u18, u16, u14, Girls u19, u17 and the Mini's programs.

We are still researching On-line registration and the only reason for the delay is there are potential changes at the Rugby Canada and ITSportsnet (the database provider) that could impact our decision.

The next Social Event is St. Patrick's Day which just happens to fall on Thursday A.K.A. Practice Day this year.  We will celebrate the great Irish saint in style after practice or maybe a little before in the clubhouse.  The wearing of something GREEN is MANDATORY!

That is the news for this month.

A note from the heart.

Sent: Wednesday, March 02, 2011 9:33 AM

Dear Keith Daniels and Craig Morley,
I'm writing this message today, the day after our daughter's wake, in an
attempt to pass on this message to the widest possible readers. Seeing that
both you guys will be able to contact a great deal of our friends, old and
new.
At this time, the thought of Vickie's death is still much to fresh for us to
really comprehend, and still can't believe it's true. Getting used to it
will be hard long road. To me she was my first born child, whom I loved and
watched from a dad's perspective, grow through every stage until reaching
adulthood. To Gill she was much more, she was her daughter, her friend and
confidant, her shopping expedition buddy, someone to have a fag with, and
someone to dote with whilst watching Vickie's little lad, Adian sprout up.
You know, when friends hear that such a catastrophe has happened, their
first thought is, good god! This could happen to our family, for no good
reason at all. A scary reflection indeed. Their second thought however, is
that I must try to share this tragedy with our friends, and let them know
that I really feel for them and offer any simple help that they might need,
no matter what it is. Now we come to the amazing bit, it's almost
unbelievable how many old friends, or merely just acquaintances, from near
by or other distant parts, have visited us or got in touch with us over the
last little while. Although we only had a chance to exchange a brief few
words perhaps, Gill and I knew that your tenderness to us and the family
came straight from the heart.
I have to say now that Robert, her husband, spent every possible moment with
his wife, In four different hospitals, over the last six months. He was
magnificent in his dedication to his soul mate. I'm particularly proud of my
son Robin who soldiered on, doing things and saying things at the
appropriate time, when his dad was too distressed to even begin to. He and
his wonderful wife Ray-Ann have supported Gill and I at every step of the
road. Vickie also had a special relationship with Gill's brother John from
England, who really enjoyed each other's company every time they came
together. It was always laugh time when they met. John was right beside us,
and in his eloquent way, made us remember some of the fun times the family
have had over all the years. I like to thing that Vickie was like her
granddad, Dusty Crossfield, war hero, and happy go lucky guy, who always did
his best to make someone laugh. If I passed on some of his genes to Vickie,
I would be very happy.
She died much too young, and had everything to live for to complete a
contented life, so whatever the cause of the cancer that would cut down such
a strong and robust girl, we can only say that we must all cherish every
bloody last minute of life, spent with the ones we love and care for, and
don' let this terrible disease get the better of us for our zest for life
and happiness.

Thanks to all, and God bless. Mel and Gillian Crossfield.
