NOBS World "PART TWO; read me second " You miserable old bastard!

There is lots going on this week or should I say the week the past.  Happy birthday Bob Nye.  You don't look a day over 69!!  What's your secret?  We have a birthday greeting below from our mate Andrew Jackson.

Here's a look at the two sides last Saturday in the alumni game.

Good-looking bunch of fellas.

Last Monday evening we played the staff College in the return match from last fall's game.  We haven't played them for a few years in the spring.  Past experience was that the spring edition was much stronger than the fall edition.  In a game we could've won we didn't.  Give full credit to the staff side they play with intensity and youth something foreign to us.  All the same a great game and a great time was had by all.  Special thanks to the bar stuff in our cooks who provided at top drawer post game meal.
Thanks guys.  That's it, enjoy the message from our friend the Geordie.  Da Thug

Hi Bobby, hope you are well and fighting fit.

Appreciate the Email is a little premature but all the very best for Sunday. I wish I was there to celebrate with you, however I will raise a glass to you Sunday – and Evan now 16 will have a sneaky beer and you will be the toast.

Great experience for all of us in Canada – I am now back in the rat race in London with my family back in the North East – not perfect but we make it work. We all reminisce about many things in our four years there but one stands out for me and Evan and that is the Sundays, and the odd Thursdays at Burlington. Both Evan and I miss it dearly.

Yes the Rugby was great, but the company, the laughs, and the craic was just top class. We miss you all.

We are planning a visit to Canada in the next twelve months so no doubt you will get a surprise visit from Evan I and I some time – I suspect winter.

Tell all we are asking on them and enjoy your day on Sunday. You don't look a day over 73 lol.

Unsure what everyone's plans are during world cup – if folk are coming over to UK make certain I know – I will travel anywhere to catch up for a few pints – all on me.

Take care.

Andrew Jackson

NOBS WORLD JUNE 25th 2015 "part 1" READ ME FIRST

Good evening to everyone in the NOBS World; where ever you are.  As I tap, tap, this the lads are just about finished another Thursday night run.  While we're on the subject of touch, touch is every Tuesday and Thursday; sort of 6:30 - 7pm.  This weekend there is no fixture, so come on out for touch Sunday at 1pm!

Our next game up is July 5th in Burlington at 1pm.  The GITS will be in town; fresh off their loss to the Saracen Alumni.  We know something about Alumni games.  Last Saturday we played the Centaur's Alumni.  I am going to let Nick Manz tell you about Saturday's game; taken from the Centaur's weekly newsletter.  Great game!

Centaurs, Alumni & Friends,

Thanks to all that came out to support the Burlington Centaurs Annual Alumni Weekend.

Sherwood Forest Park in Burlington showcased some great rugby action ALL day long with decades of Centaur talent putting on the Blue & Orange and battling on the field.

The day started off early with the Centaurs Alumni taking on the Niagara Old Boys in the annual exhibition match. The game was one of the most evenly matched in the history of the event with several Centaur Alumni continuing their rugby action all season long with the NOBS. The game was played at a surprisingly fast pace, with the help from a couple of younger players. It was a great game for players to catch up with some old friends and the Alumni came away with a narrow victory over the NOBS.

The Alumni Game is the perfect example of the Burlington Centaurs motto "Friends through Rugby…..Friends through Life"

Denis Thomas of the NOBS (also a Centaur Alum) takes on some old team mates in the Annual Centaurs Alumni Game.

Now checkout the photo below and see if you can spot long time NOB; Gene Adams?  Didn't even come over and say hello!  Does he owe us money?

The Centaurs Men's III team hosted the Buffalo Rugby Team in a heated exhibition game. With both teams looking for a win for their respective countries the Centaurs demonstrated some great phases of rugby but were unable to match the speed of the Buffalo touring side in the end.

Mike is also a NOB.  Get ready for part two.  Da Thug

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World; where ever you are.  Lots to talk about; with a big day on the agenda tomorrow.

Before we talk about Saturday; I have 2 public service announcements from the NOBS Executive. [this is never good]  From our CFA; Rolf Thomas.  Our social dues are now due!  We have costs we need to pay and Rolf's car payment is coming up fast.

From the desk of the club secretary; Mr. Kevin Bloska.  "Thug' despite the fact you have already mentioned this 3 times, please remind everyone that you do not need to be registered to play in tomorrow's Centaur's Alumni game as it is being sponsored by the Centaurs."  Come on out and get a game in.

If you don't know by now; one of the big social events of the year is happening at the Cru; Saturday night, as it's Bob Nye's "75th' Birthday Bash.  All are welcome!

Tomorrow's game.  I have heard from a number of you. Brad Thomas, Dennis Thomas and even Rolf Thomas. [He's not available.] Scott Lewis, Olney, Platt, Morley, Wiggins, Ted, Cartwright and Holdaway.  Not to mention all the responses for the Monday, June 22nd; Staff college fixture.  Not all of you can make it, but thanks' for letting us know.  I would still like to hear of your intentions. Email me or Tim Ellis.  camorley09@gmail.com  or timothy.ellis@sympatico.ca  let's hear from you!

One last thing.  Our teammate and friend, Tony Windsor has moved his family back to the UK to pursue new horizons.  Tony has dropped us a quick note here at the NOBS World Headquarters on how he is making out.

Hi Craig,

So far so sort of good.  Bloody tired, but got a car now and moving into a rental house tomorrow.

I'll be in touch, don't worry.  Just couldn't quite make it to the club as we have been so busy! (and not sure it would have been a good question to ask - can I have a ride to the rugby club dear????

cheers

Tony

NOBS WORLD JUNE 17th 2015

Good evening to everyone in the NOBS WORLD; where ever you are. Big weekend coming up; but let's talk about last Sunday's game. Bruce County was back in town, bringing their hard nosed stile of play. The game was played in an excellent Oldboys spirit and a close run match. Mark Platt so determined to never play scrum half again, as he did 3 weeks ago put in a Man Of The Match performance at number 8.

Speaking of Mark; he's in for this Saturday for the Centaur's annual Alumni Game. Let me know if you're available at camorley09@gmail.com or Tim Ellis at timothy.ellis@sympatico.ca . This game gets underway at 11am, sharp. The Centaur's are running under a tight schedule, and we need to be dressed, warmed up and ready to go. Big day, with a big crowd on hand. Be there!

If you didn't get enough Saturday day time, Saturday evening; at the Cru it's Bob Nyes 75th Birthday Party. All are invited.

Monday the Staff College will be in town, more on that later.

See you on Saturday, a big day of rugby. Da Thug

Fwd: NOBS WORLD, FRIDAY JUNE 12TH 2015 "UPDATE"

Good morning to everyone in the NOBS World, this wet Friday morning.  Thanks to all of you for the cards and letters, pointing out the errors of my way!   Let's not fail to mention the emails about Sundays fixture I have received.  Let's try this again.

This Sunday; the 14th; we are hosting Bruce County in Burlington at 1pm.

June 20th will be a big day as Bob Nye celebrates his 75th birthday with a party in the Crusaders Clubhouse, starting a 6pm.  Also that day as part of the Centaurs Alumni Day, we will be playing the Alumni squad at 11AM.  So far so good.

Monday June 22nd, in Burlington, we will be hosting the Staff College, in a rare spring fixture.

Now; it's all hand on deck.  We need players for all 3 encounters.  Mark Platt  has already thrown his scrum hat in the circle saying he will be out for all 3 games.  How about you?

Take care, Da Thug

Good morning to everyone in the NOBS World; where ever you are.  Lots going on over the next few weeks; but first, let's talk about last Sunday.  We travelled to East York Collegiate with a strong contingent of players.  The GITS generously provided us with players to make up our squad and have some spares.  The GITS came away with a 5-3 victory, but a very solid game.  Denis Thomas had a good game as he pointed out to us in the post-game presentations [LOL]  at the legendary Kilt & Harp, who also put on a nice food spread for us.

This week we are back home to once again host Bruce County at 1pm.  June 20th we take on the Centaurs Alumni at 11am; not the previously reported 12pm.  There's an email below from Centaurs Nick Manz with a guide to all the Alumni Weekend festivities.

MONDAY, JUNE 22nd AT 7PM,  we are hosting the Staff College.  A rare spring fixture against the armed forces squad.

Tim Ellis has asked me to remind all of you we need bodies for all 3 fixture.  Come on out as were only a month away from the summer hiatus.

Fwd: NOBS WORLD JUNE 5th. SPECIAL ADDITION

Good evening to everyone across the NOBS WORLD.  The weekend is upon us now, and there is lots going on and lots to report.  This weekend we are all over the map.  A group of rugby mercenaries has headed to Franconia NH for the weekend.  Sunday it is touch in Burlington at 1pm as it is very Sunday, unless you are traveling to East York Collegiate for our fixture with the GITS.  Driving instructions to Sunday's venues are below.  The Kilt will be serving Irish Stew!!  Bring along your YELLOW jerseys.

No less than our Secretary of State, Kevy; along with CFO Thomas, has asked me to remind everyone that our social dues, are now due!!  I have been told a S&@T list is being set up, with the likes of Morley and Bloska near the top.  Oh the shame!

Now an update on fixtures.  Of course this Sunday in Toronto.  June 20th it's the Centaurs Alumni weekend; with a Saturday 12pm kickoff.  Bigger news, June 22nd, a Monday, we are at home, hosting the Staff College, for a rare spring fixture.  Tim will have more on this shortly, but I am pretty sure, space will be limited and he want to know your intentions about playing.  Showing up game day unannounced, could leave you disappointed.

The Krock's will be holding their Platinum Oldies, August 15th; and I am being told they will be having both touch and contact games.  Dave Tait will have more information in the near future.

One more thing.  Alumni Day in Burlington, will be a day where playing subs will be covered by the Centaurs and anyone, registered or not, can play.  It's also the day of Bob Nyes  birthday; a day, destined to be of biblical proportions.

See you Sunday in East York; YELLOW jerseys, on time and ready to go.  Da Thug

Craig, can you distribute. Thanks

First, next Sunday. For those not going to Franconia there is touch in Burlington 1:00 p.m. as well as an all comers contact game hosted by the GITS 1:00 p.m. East York Collegiate.

This past Sunday saw the NOBS on our first visit to our new friends at their field in Tiverton, Bruce County for the rematch to our season opener. We all owe our long suffering Fixtures Secretary Tim Ellis at least a round of applause, and possibly even a pint, for his efforts in getting out a full side for a fixture that is a fair old drive away. I want to thank everyone who played on the day-being willing to do a couple of drives a year will make a big difference in the quality and quantity of home fixtures we can attract.

The result wasn't quite as positive as the first game, but given that our roster had 2 backs and 13 forwards, seven of whom are front rows, it didn't turn out that badly. Another fun game played in the right spirit. A few more good plays from their side, but we had our share as well (Ted was at his scintillating best) and as expected they were good hosts. We are arranging the tiebreaker for the fall.

Our next big date is Saturday June 20 when we play the Centaurs Alumni on the Saturday in our annual fixture. We are planning big things for this event so stay tuned for updates as we get closer to the day.

Cheers

Chuck
