NOBS News: Saturday's Game

It was hard to keep up with all the games Saturday, but it was great to host the GITS.  As usual the GITS travel well and brought more than enough to the game.  A hiccup with the fields did not stop us from making things work.  Using an undersized field, and going with 12-a-side we did a round robin format with a total of 4 games or 80-minutes of game time.  With free substitution, you could take a break after a short run!  Although not our original plan it seemed to have worked out based on the feedback.  On a good note, no broken ankles, which seems to be a fashion thing with the GITS.

Thanks to all that played, including our US players and Niagara players, and to Mark and Brian (a couple of new NOBs) that made it to the game.  As well, I think the GITS are breeding, there were a number of new faces I have not seen before.  We look forward to playing the GITS in September.

Our next contact game is not scheduled until September.  But I know that Lockport has an alumni game in mid-late August that we should consider.  Other activities will be happening (soccer, cricket, golf, touch) to keep us going through the summer.

Thanks for a good day.

Nobs News: Soccer Reminder

Just a reminder about soccer on Tuesday night.
Gentlemen!

The Burlington Old Timers Soccer Club want to revive the annual round ball event this year.

Our first game is on June 27th at Field 7 at Sherwood (Over by the baseball fields),

We are looking at a 6:30 meeting for a 7:00 pm kickoff. Food and drinks in our club room.

BOTSC is taking it more seriously this year, that is why the first game is on a soccer field with goal posts, and on a Tuesday, because many of their better players  play on Friday nights.

So let's get a strong team out ...

CRUNCH TIME!

We have had only one day (Oshawa) of contact this year with our May rain out.  We now have a game coming up against the GITS on Saturday June 24 @11:00 KO.  We are at home, but will be playing on the soccer pitch (GRASS – the field with lights).  The Blues are playing on the main pitch at the 11:00, I don’t think you will get mixed up, we are the good looking ones!  This is a SANCTIONED event, so insurance is in place for all.

We are looking for a timely kick off so we can watch the end of the Blues game, get some refreshment, then head off to the Hamilton for the International match – What a Day.

So who is in????  I have heard from a few, but a few does not make a team.  I hope to see some Bertie’s, maybe some Hamilton players….how about some Centaur Alumni?
Let’s have a good showing.

Please confirm your availability, and make it a great day of rugby!

NOBS News: Touch League

Earlier in the year I mentioned we were looking at introducing a touch league on Sundays to promote the game.  This email provides additional information.  This does not preclude the NOBs touch, but on Sundays we will be sharing the field.  Our hope is to generate greater interest in our NOBs touch and may be our contact side.  Nick of the Centaurs is the spearheading this, and we are supportive.  We can enter s NOBS team, or you can enter as an individual.   This is the same group that ran the touch in the dome after the new year and has run a league in Toronto.  On the 25th they are having an open session, this should give you an idea of what to expect.

Take a look….

Thanks

Phil
