To all Centaurs, Alumni, and Nobs:

Here's the most important things to remember about New years Eve:

1. Drink lots of water before going to sleep (read passing out)
2. Set alarm for 10:30 am.
3. Place bottle of Tylenol on the bed side table

Here's the most important things about New Years Day:

1. DON'T hit snooze button
2. Reach over and take Tylenol on the bed side table
3. Get out of bed, grab your kit (make sure you pack a white shirt and a dark shirt) and get down to the Dome by 11:30

Yes, the New year can only mean the Gnome Bowl is once again to be battled for and now is the time to read the attached rules so there's no misunderstandings. Remember that the rules are a combination of the Nobs and Centaur Thursday night run rules.Highlighted are the very important ones.

The significant rule difference between Old Boys and youngen's: ANY DROPPED BALL RESULTS IN A TURNOVER REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT TRAVELS BACKWARDS OR NOT. We have had some injuries in the past from aggressive ball reclaimation and so in an attempt to make it a fun day for all levels, the ball is turned over when it hits the deck.........other than from a kick.

Teams are made up of Senior Men, Women, Nobs, juniors (U16 and older boys and girls) and their family members.

So before you all bring in the New Year, memorize the rules, pack your kit with a white and coloured shirt, have your morning after elixers at the ready, and be down at the dome by 11:45(earlier would be better as teams will be drawn up as you arrive).

Happy New Year

ITS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR

Good evening to all of you in the NOBS World!  Joy to the World, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year.  Spent the day off, decking out the NOBS World Headquarters.  Dragged out the 1973 Silver Christmas Tree from under the stairs, hung up the lost rugby boots over the furnace room door and Rolfy dragged out the old turn table to spin those old Christmas records.  So now all we need is to see you over the Holidays and here's a list of what's going on.

December 23rd, Touch in Burlington, outside on the artificial turf at 1pm to 2:30 pm.  $5
December 24th,  Burlington Centaurs annual Christmas Carol Singing from 1:30 to 5pm.
December 26th, Boxing Day, Touch run around, outside @1pm.
December 27th, Regular Thursday Dome night
December 30th, Touch in Burlington, on the turf.
January 1st.  No Dome in the evening.
January 1st. Annual New Years Day Gnome Bowl.  In the Dome, please come for 11:30am, so the teams can be put together and things can get underway for noon.
January 3rd, Regular Thursday night in the Dome

Lots of opportunities to work off the Season of Gluttony, and keep your fitness at a razor sharp edge.   See you over the holidays, Jacob Marley, Da Thug

 Clever scammers.

This has been checked out on Snopes and it is true.  With Christmas coming be careful with your credit cards.

MOST OF US KNOW THERE ARE SCAMS ABOUT BUT THIS one is VERY CUNNING.
There is a new and clever credit card scam - be wary of those who come bearing gifts. The scam involves a gift package & could also contain unwanted items so be extra careful not to accept it.
It just happened to friends a week or so ago in Sydney, and it can pretty well now be happening anywhere else in the
 world.
It works like this:
Wednesday a week ago, I had a phone call from someone who said that he was from some outfit called: "Express Couriers" asking if I
was going to be home because there was a package for me, and the caller said that the delivery would arrive at my home in roughly an hour. And sure enough, about an hour later, a delivery man turned up with a beautiful basket of flowers and wine. I was very surprised since it did not involve any special occasion or holiday, and I certainly didn't expect anything like
it. Intrigued about who would send me such a gift, I inquired as to who the sender is. The deliveryman's reply was, he was only delivering the gift package, but allegedly a card was being sent separately; (the card has never arrived!). There was also a consignment note with the gift.
He then went on to explain that because the gift contained alcohol, there
was a $3.50 "delivery charge" as proof that he had actually delivered the package to an adult, and not just left it on the doorstep to just be stolen or taken by anyone.
This sounded logical and I offered to pay him cash. He then said that the company required the payment to be by credit or debit card only so that everything is properly accounted for.
My husband, who, by this time, was standing beside me, pulled his wallet out of his pocket with the credit/debit card, and 'John', the "delivery man", asked my husband to swipe the card on the small mobile card machine which had a small screen and keypad where Frank was also asked to enter the card's PIN and security number. A receipt was printed out and given to us.

To our horrible surprise, between Thursday and the following Monday, $4,000 had been charged/withdrawn from our credit/debit account at various ATM machines.

It appeared that somehow the "mobile credit card machine" which the deliveryman carried now had all the necessary info to create a "dummy" card with all our card details, after my husband swiped our card and entered the requested PIN and security number.
Upon finding out about the illegal transactions on our card, we immediately notified the bank that had issued the cards to us, and closed our credit and debit accounts.
We also went to the Police and they confirmed that it is definitely a scam as several households had been similarly hit.

WARNING: Be wary of accepting any "surprise gift or package", which you neither expected nor personally ordered, especially if it involves any kind of payment as a condition of receiving the gift or package. Also, never accept anything if you do not personally know (or there is no proper identification) who the sender is.
Above all, the only time you should give out any personal credit/debit card information is when you yourself initiated the purchase or transaction!

Please pass this on; it may just prevent someone else from being swindled by these scumbags.

FW: Las Vegas Rugby Tour

Good morning everyone.  Plans are getting underway for a winter rugby tour to Las Vegas.  All the details are below in an email from Mike Howes. Michael@2waconsulting.com

Craig,  can you send this out to the masses?  The NOBs and the older Centaurs.

---------------------------

We are planning to go to Las Vegas this February 8 to 10.  We are going to enter the Master’s 15 a side tournament ... I hear it is just one game but more on that once we have the details.

What we need is 22 guys who are willing to play.  I’m sure there will be non-playing travellers as well, but we need to see if we have a team or not.  To register your intention to go, you need to give a cheque for $200 (fully refundable if we don’t go) to Rolf Thomas no later than December 20th, 2012.  That amount of money will go towards the tickets, hotel, etc.  If we have 22 people by then, we will register a team and get a hotel.  If we don’t, then you’ll be watching it on television.

So, what you are signing on for is a game (likely just one, unless you are Pablo and will play for anybody who doesn’t know how he plays), some 7’s games, and of course a whole lot of Sin City fun.  Who wouldn’t want to do that in February?

I will be following up with directly, either in person or by phone / email, starting with people who have been on tour in the past few years.  Any questions, talk / email me.  We need people to step up, so please do.

Thanks.
