Happy New Year to everyone in the NOBS WORLD; where ever you are.  It's winter time, here at the NOBS World headquarters.  You can tell the kind of winter were having when the snow shovel gets out more than you.  Nice turnout last Sunday for touch.  We'll do it again this Sunday.  Don't forget tomorrow is the Gnome Bowl touch tournament.  Try to be dressed and ready to go for 11:30 am. Just for the record, this is being played inside the dome.  Below is an email from Centaurs, Nick Manz about the Centaurs junior touch programs.  Have a Happy New Year and stay safe.  See you in 2014, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD DECEMBER 2OTH, 2013 "SHES ALIVE!!"

Ok; that was a cheap ploy to get your attention’ but it didn’t stop me from scouring the local Wal-Mart to see if I could spot her inside!

Season’s Greetings to everyone in the NOBS World.  I wanted to let you know that despite the predicted wet weather this Sunday, touch is on in Burlington, “outside” at 1pm.  Come on down and escape the Christmas madness and get a little fitness in.  Haven’t heard from the Centaurs, but we are assuming that there is a Boxing Day touch run.   If I hear anything, I will pass it on.

Christmas Eve is the Centaurs, Christmas carol sing along running from 1pm to 5.  I have heard rumours that legendary NOB, Centaur and singer extraordinaire, Cye Beechy will make a return to lead the massed voices.  Always a fun event.

Sunday December 29th touch will be run as usual.  Come out and work off the calories.

New Year’s Day the Centaurs will be running their Gnome Bowl in the Dome.  It gets under way at noon, but come early and get ready to go.

The NOBS AGM is Sunday February 2nd at 3pm; following the touch run around.  Were always looking for new blood on the executive.  Ask not what your club can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your club.

That’s it!  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Jacob Morley

FW: X-mas party

Good afternoon folks.  Just wanted to pass on a note from the Centaurs.  The Christmas Party they are talking about was the same one we were going to hold in conjunction with them.  Jacob Morley

>Centaurs, Alumni & Supporters :

With apologies to those few families that indicated they would come, we did not get enough of a response to proceed with the Christmas party this Sunday and therefore have cancelled it.

But, there is still an opportunity to make merry at the Club on December 24th from 2 to 5pm and join the extended Centaur family for carol singing and seasons greetings.

Also, don't forget the AGM, Tuesday December 10th at 6:30 pm. Its your club.......have a say in it !

NOBS WORLD NEWS UPDATE.

Ladies and gentlemen, a few updates.

Last call for tickets to the Awards Night this Friday, the 29th.   I have been informed by Rolf Thomas rolfthomas@live.com that there are still a few spots available.  Let him know and we’ll see you Friday.

Maybe it’s a sign of the times and people are busy with other things but we are going to have to cancel a couple of our planned Christmas events, due to a lack of response.

The Carol Sing in Toronto is still on Friday December 13th and many NOBS will still be going; but we will not be running a bus there as planned.  You can get in touch with John Noble at johnbevnoble@icloud.com for information on the event.

We are very sorry to announce that our planned Christmas party on Sunday December 8th is going to also be cancelled.  It might be re-scheduled, but at this time we are not sure.

See you at the Awards Night on Friday, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD NOVEMBER 15TH 2013

Good afternoon to everyone all across the NOBS World.  Two things on a Friday afternoon [Well probably three.]

1.    Friday November the 29th  is the NOBS annual awards night.  Scrumptious Indian dinner, awards presentation, tall tales and a rousing rugby sing song to wrap things up.  Who will be able to top Derek Wiggins, and his musical contribution, last year?  Cost is only $30, doors open at 6:30 pm.  Tickets are now on sale and will be available this Sunday.  You can book your reservation at  ctmorley@cogeco.ca

2.    Sunday, December the 8th, there is going to be a Rugby Christmas party in the Centaurs Clubhouse.   Santa will be on hand to see all the kids, along with Christmas carols and festive holiday snacks.

What we are proposing is that Santa will give out gifts to children 11years and younger.  The parents of these children who want to participate are to bring along a gift for their children, not exceeding $20 in value.  Label them in large print and Santa will do the rest.  If you would like to join in let me know at ctmorley@cogeco.ca Of course all family members are welcome; older children, grandparents, aunts, girlfriends, boyfriends; you name it. We would love to pack the place.

3.    I did say three things.  Don’t forget touch this and every Sunday at 1pm.

See you Sunday, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD NOVEMBER 14TH 2013

Good morning to everyone in the NOBS World, where ever you are.  I was asked to mention a memorial service for our old friend Keith Grant who passed away recently.  There is a memorial service for Keith tomorrow, November 15 from 1 to 3pm in the Sherwood Forest Park, Dome #1.  Keith requested that no suit and ties be allowed and attendees bring their own lawn chair, as well as a food donation for the Christmas hamper, a smile and a hug.   Expressions of sympathy donations to the Carpenter Hospice would be appreciated by his family.

Don’t forget that touch is on this Sunday and every Sunday, outside on the artificial turf at Sherwood Forest, from 1 to 2:30pm.  $5 match fee to help pay for the field.

Two events are getting closer.  November 29th is our awards night.  I will have more information on that for you tomorrow.   December 8th at 3pm there is to be a Rugby Christmas party in the Centaurs Clubhouse.  There will be more information on this in the near future, but you can count on one thing; Santa Claus will be coming to town.

See you Sunday, Da Thug

FW: Late Breakng News - Live Fall Internationals

As far as the NOBS were concerned as of last night
this was "Dead in the Water" so if nothing else you have to
applaud Barry's efforts to try and keep this alive.

The least we can do is show is show up and enjoy
Dermot's free coffee.

Slight correction to Barry's fixture
Wales are NOT playing England tomorrow because :
A) The Welsh team wanted the day off to watch
     Cardiff v Swansea.
B) After the thrashing the WELSH Lions gave Australia,
Australia chose a softer English adversary to open
     the tour with.

Be there or be square

I would like to send a big thank you to the rugby community for being there for Mark. The family was really touched by the number of rugby player that came to the service and the wake. I loved the fact so many players wore their shirts Mark would have loved  that. The last person left the wake after 1am Mark would have loved all the stories, laughter, wine and food.

The flowers from the rugby clubs were beautiful.

Thanks for making a difficult time a little bit easier.

FW: Sad news - Keith Grant

Ladies and gentlemen, we have received some sad news this morning.  Keith Grant who took care of all our needs in the Dome or out on the artificial turf  and became a good friend to the NOBS RFC, passed away this morning.

From: Barry Goldberg

Centaurs, Alumni, and Supporters:

I have just been informed by the Burlington Youth Soccer Club, that Keith Grant passed away early this morning.

From Dennis Leece of BYSC :

Unfortunately the BYSC lost a very Dear Member of its family early this morning.. Keith Grant passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his kids, family and close friends. He was a great friend to all and was a true Gentleman.

He will be Dearly missed

His Kids asked that they have a couple of weeks to mourn his loss and get adjusted.. I’ll be in contact with the family over the next couple weeks and will pass along all the arrangements to everyone once they have been decided.

Keith was rugby fan and as a part of the BYSC administration, he was a familiar face to the Centaurs and Nobs at Sherwood and was always helpful in finding us access to lights, extra time in the domes or just sneaking up for a coffee during the 6 Nations games.

Fw: Game in Peterborough, Sunday, October 20th...

Don't miss out on a chance to bond with your GIT mates.  I was told that last years fixture was a rocking, socking event and the GITS would love to have you along to bolster their numbers.  Let Ray know at rayhopkin@gmail.com.  We have no fixture this season with the Krock's, so don't miss this opportunity.  Da Thug

So we have 10 confirmed, 25 have declined, and I'm waiting on another 12 to decide...

WE NEED YOU!!! Please, those 12, confirm asap, and can everyone please start seeing if any lads want to come out, I don't want to go up to Peterborough short, nor up there with the bare 15! If anyone knows a buddy that wants a game, drag them out. For those 12 who haven't responded yet, can you please do so asap so I can see who's coming and if we have the numbers. If anyone declined because they are sitting on the fence, or they just don't feel like playing, please reconsider!

A call to arms from Boyo to the troops to help out the Gits cause - don't disappoint!

So, the game is on Sunday, 1pm. I have room for 2 people in my car (although Balls isn't allowed in my car, and maybe someone who can read a map...) and can pick you up at either the Coxwell or Woodbine subway stations, and Jerry Marriott has room for 3, and you'll have to contact him for pick-up places (Jerry.Marriott@nbc.ca).

Anyone else have spaces for car pooling? We currently have 8 confirmed, 15 declined and still waiting on the rest, nice to have 12 more! - please respond asap!!

There is some discussion points, that you can see from the following email from the Krocks:

A bit of an early confirmation but i did want to give you the heads-up that we have no OKtoberfest event planned this year, so the fixture is Sun. Oct. 20th---GITs @ Krocks.
(you may recall we batted about a possible Sat. fixture and an Oktoberfest party afterwards).

Now, with our men's team knocked out of the McCormick consolation, there probably wouldn't be any conflict to use the field on Sat. the 19th is that works better for you guys?
The clubhouse is fully open and fully operational----hot showers/cold beer + great food & camaraderie (sp?)

Thanks,

So, two points, first, do we want to move the game to a Saturday? Please reply to this email, allowing everyone to see it so we can start the discussion. It doesn't matter to me either way, but I think if we are to move it to Saturday, I think it's fair to let the Krocks know by Wednesday/Thursday. I would want at least 20 guys to confirm that they are available to play on Saturday by Thursday morning, otherwise it'll stay as a Sunday game, no ifs or buts.

Second point, if anyone is interested in taking a bus, or mini-bus, please be my guest, and organize it, because I won't. If someone organizes it, great, if not, use this thread to try and car pool!

Finally, the plans are gathering pace with the Gits end of year awards shin-dig. It'll be on November 15th at the Kilt & Harp, with Karaoke and games happening. I have sent out a FaceBook invite, and a Teamer invite, hopefully we'll see everyone out!

Yet another fantastic year, let's end on a high note!

Fw: Game in Peterborough, Sunday, October 20th...

Folk's our friendly foe the GITS are extending an invitation for us to take up arms and join them this Sunday in Peterborough to take on the mighty Krocks.  Great opportunity to play in a great game.  You can let me know and I can pass it on, or cut out the middleman and email Ray "Boyo" Hopkin at rayhopkin@gmail.com .  If there is interest in car pooling let me know.  Da Thug

A reminder that the XLs are hosting the weekly Old-Boys' game this Sunday (October 6th), at the Brampton Rugby facility. The usual 1:00 PM kick-off.

The Brampton field is located on the east side of Kennedy Road, north of Derry Road and south of Steeles (enter on the south side of the Powerade hockey arena). A map can be found on the BRFC website .... http://rugbybrampton.com/en-us/aboutus/contactus.aspx

 -----------------------------------------------

We will be taking this opportunity to celebrate our friend and comrade, Mark Radwanski. Mark's memorial was this past Wednesday; the room was filled to capacity. It was a testament to the respect and affection Mark generated in our community.

There were plenty of rugby colours amongst the crowd. We all adjourned to the Wheat Sheaf immediately after for a few toasts, and many joined the family later at their home.

For those that were unable to attend, we have attached the flyer that was distributed at the memorial.

Mark's wife (Teresa) and family will be joining us at the game this Sunday. Please come by and play ... our game was one of Mark's greatest joys.

NOBS WORLD OCTOBER 3RD 2013

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World.  The Staff College game is history now and it’s on to Brampton this Sunday, October 6th ; 1pm kickoff.

Last evening, the rugby gods smiled upon us, blessing the game, with beautiful weather.  A far cry from some of the past games.  No one who was there has forgotten the monsoon rains the game was played in 2 years ago.

Thank you to the Crusaders for hosting us, the food was delicious.  To all of you who pitched in to help serve it and to our referee, David Nelson.  Special thanks to Peter Allan and Jason Leek who put a lot of time in arranging the event and putting together the team.  Another great evening with the Staff College.

Don’t forget that tonight is the last touch run outside.  Starting next Tuesday & Thursday we are inside.

Also tonight following touch there will be a sendoff for Nigel & Katrina Morgan who are leaving us for Spain.

There is no game on the long weekend, but touch will be on in Burlington at 1pm.

Last but not least; this Sunday, don’t forget the game in Brampton, “YELLOW JERSEYS”.

See you all in 2 weeks, Da Thug.

ATTENTION DOMERS

I have been informed that tomorrow evening is our last touch run around.  Starting Tuesday October the 8th and Thursday October 10th we will be in the Dome.  If you haven't paid Rolf yet for your spot, come down this Thursday with payment at the Centaurs clubhouse.  In the next few days I will be posting the list of those who have said they wanted to play this season.  If you have not let us know your plans, contact John Noble at jnoble1@bell.net.  When I post the list and you do not see your name, let me know.  The Dome Ranger

NOBS WORLD, WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 2ND, 2013

Good Wednesday morning to everyone in the NOBS World, where ever you are.  This is a big day for the NOBS RFC.  Not just that we are playing our annual fixture against the Staff College, but today we say goodbye to our beloved friend, Mark Radwanski.  This morning the Radwanski family, relatives, friends and the rugby world will gather to say goodbye to Mark.  This evening we will take time out before the game to pay tribute to Mark and a post-game toast.

Tributes have been pouring in for Mark from people all over.  It is quite over whelming.  Mark was highly respected as an opponent, treasured as a team mate, and we loved him like a brother.

It wasn’t always this way, how we felt about “Rad”.  When he first broke onto the old boys scene, some 17 years ago, he was fresh from the senior men’s league wars, battle hardened.  It’s only recently that we discovered he was also captain of the Toronto Saracens!  Mark looked like a cross between a lumberjack and Rasputin, with his long matted hair and shaggy beard, and he took no prisoners. To put it bluntly we didn’t like him.  He hit like a Mack Truck and growled while scrummaging!

Time has a funny was way of changing things.  He was first an opponent, them a fellow tourist, where we learned there was so much more to him, and then a team mate , who when the going got tough, he got going.

We will miss you Mark.  Friends through rugby, are friends for life.  Da Thug
