SHHHHH......IT'S A SECRET

Good evening, lad's and lassies.  You're all invited to a birthday party; but it's a secret.  Loose lips, sink ships, so keep it buttoned.  On Saturday November 20th; Diane Burnett and family are inviting all of you to Dave's "70th" birthday party.  The event gets underway at the clubhouse of the Burlington Centaurs at 7pm.  As this is meant to be a surprise, Diane would like us all to be there by 6:45pm.   Of course if you can't be there for the surprise [hope the old Gnome doesn't have a heart attack] drop in over the course of the evening.  It's a cash bar, and please, no presents.  There will be food and music, so come one, come all.   Can't attend but would like to send birthday greetings to Dave?  Send it to us here at Nob's World and we will pass it along.  Da Thug
P.S.  Wondering how Dave won't get this?  Our media Guru Eric has dropped Dave from the list and tomorrow he will return, none the wiser.

NOBS WORLD OCTOBER 29TH

Good morning rugby fans in the wide, wild, world of Nobs.  Lots going on this weekend and over the next 2 weeks of our season.  Lets talk first about has happened over the last week.  I know that Halloween is around the corner and it can be frightening; maybe scary is the word I am looking for.  You don’t need it to be Halloween to be scary!  Last Sunday the ugly side of rugby revealed its face.  Mr Dave Burnett; better Gnown as the Super Gnome stomped on one of the Muddy York.  Oh the shame!  Saner heads stepped in to remove Dave from the fray but the deed was done and the referee [rightly so] awarded the penalty.  Must have been bad mushrooms for breakfast.  It was a dark day for all of rugby.  They game itself was full of action, big hits, lots of trys and somehow the referee said we won!?   Wednesday night it was our annual fixture with the Staff College.  The usual stuff; they tell us we before the game that this is their first match of the year, only 8 experienced rugby players and three women officers, who if we didn’t mind could they treated like red shorts players.  I warned our lads it was all a military ruse to get us to let our guard down.  So what happens?  Within a few minutes they were running and tackling all over the pitch scoring the games first try.  Sound familiar?  The Nobs counter attacked, bolstered by young blood from the Cru and Centaurs.  The battle was on!   When the dust had settled and the injured carted off we had won the day.  Our opponents, always the diplomats and good sports were already looking forward to the return match in the spring after they have spent the winter planning their tactics, fine tuning their attack.  Can’t wait till May!

This weekend we have no oldboys fixture planned but the Burlington Centaurs have invited us to join them on Sunday for a inter squad game, where the teams will be a combination of senior men and oldboys mixed together.  I have been told this will be a “Friendly”.  Is there any such thing in rugby?  Touch will also be run at the same time at 1pm.  Next Saturday it is Cup Day.  The game will be held in Markham with a 10:30am kickoff, giving everyone a chance to get a game in and then up to the Square for the Cup games.  The week after on November 14th we have the 3rd annual East / West game at the Cru; with a 1pm kickoff.  Lot’s do for everyone, see you Sunday, Da Thug

Please note that there will also be Touch Rugby available for those who wish to play, at the same time as the contact game (i.e. 1pm).

Craig,

Please circulate a.s.a.p.

Further to the conversations last evening, we can now confirm the the Centaurs would really like to play a very friendly mixed team of contact with the NOBS this Sunday 1.00 at Sherwood.  Their game has again been cancelled this week and they want to keep the troops together for some decent exercise.

An invitation to All NOBS  and the rest of the world to come out and we will mix the teams to balance them out and we should get a good game of rugby for all.  It should be a lot of fun and set the scene for the last 3 weeks of the Old Boy's season.

Thanks, on behalf of the Centaurs, hope we see lot's of guy's out, this a great time of the year to be playing.

From: Stephen D. Cohen <sdcohen4@mindspring.com>

To the MARS Sydney Team and Other Concerned Friends:

Hope everyone has made it home safely from the Golden Oldies Festival and other side trips and doing their best to return to a normal life. Like me, I am sure, it is not quite normal...as our comrade Denny Steffy remains in the Acute Spinal Ward at the Prince of Wales Hospital.

Tim Kauffman - who is friend of Denny's in Lancaster (PA)  and also a physical therapist - has been in touch with Denny regularly as well as with the hospital. Denny has appointed Tim as his "legal contact" for updates from the hospital on his condition.

First off, Denny's 60th birthday is Oct. 22. It would be great if everyone sent him birthday card/wishes via email or mail.

You can send an email to him via Kate Lindberg (Social Worker) at: Kate.Lindberg@SESIAHS.HEALTH.NSW.GOV.AU or send a card to him as follows:

Prince of Wales Public Hospital
Barker Street
Randwick, New South Wales 2031
Australia
Attn: Dennis Steffy, Patient, Acute Spinal Ward

Tim and I are in touch regularly and I will pass along updates from Tim accordingly. Currently, I am only sending updates to our Sydney team and others who are fully aware of what happened to Denny and have shown concern (and whose email addresses I have*).  Once he returns home and the financial impact of this accident including subsequent is more fully understood, I will be issuing information on how people can help out.

* If anyone wants me to add an email address to the list you see...please let me know.

Tim spoke with Denny on Sunday night and advised:
"His spirits are good. He rode a bike in PT on Monday I do not know how much assistance he needed. He said he can hold the phone in his left hand a little. He also asked that his physio contact me which she did. She said that Denny is working on a transfer from bed to wheelchair – I assume. He heeds 2 people to assist him. Denny told me that the rehab folks had him upright on a tilt board. These are all promising."

Tim also advised me that Denny's spinal cord was not completely severed which is good. He has feeling and movement in both legs and both arms. Too soon to tell what this all means.

I spoke with him twice before we left Australia last Wednesday. His spirit to get through this difficult challenge is strong. He appreciates the care and concern he's been getting from many people who he doesn't know. A number of local Sydney rugby people have been visiting him regularly including Allan Forno, the Festival Director.

His friend Gary Creamer (Lancaster) will fly out to be with him about a week or so before he is permitted to return to the US for further care. When and how this will happen is not yet known.

I would like to extend the thanks and appreciation to all of you that have been there for Denny these past 3 weeks.

With you.

Steve

HAPPY TRAFALGAR DAY, CHILEAN MINERS, MARKHAM RECAP AND MORE

Good afternoon rugby fans and to all of you celebrating Admiral Nelson’s victory at Trafalgar!  {What; you didn’t know it is today’s date?]  It is on this day we turn a blind eye to all of those who would get in our way and charge on.  Forget about him you say and get on with happen on the field at Markham.  First let’s talk about this weekends events and the up coming Staff College fixture.  Touch is under way in Burlington on the out door artificial field, Sunday’s at 1pm until next April.  The cost is $5 to cover the rental of the field.  A bargain at twice the price.  There is a game in Burlington against the Muddy York, come on out and finally get that side step in.  Kickoff is 1pm.  This coming Wednesday, the 27th we are playing the Staff College at the Crusaders Park in Oakville; kickoff is 6:30 pm.  Please be early to get things under way on time.  So what happened in Markham?  The home side quickly jumped into the lead on a beautiful, sun swept October afternoon.  The Nobs continued to struggle into the second 20 minutes of the game when an injury forced a tactical change, moving Mr. Bloska into the front row.  Things began to change with Kevy leading from the front lines inspiring heads to be held high again and resume the charge.  Our Man of the Match, Steve Brooks started running like a mad man.  He tackled with no regard for his safety.  Others soon followed.  Clarence Brown and Reg Trodd continually tracked down their backs in the open field heading for our try line.  Although we came out on the short end of the score, we made a game of it.  Well done to all of you who made the trip last Sunday.  So I know your wondering “Chilean Miners?”  As we were getting ready to head out from the change room to start the game we noticed one of our stalwart players who only the day before had emailed me that he would see us in Markham, was not to be found.  I became alarmed and started asking around.  Was traffic bad?  Did I give out the wrong date and time?  No one knew, when suddenly one of our lads [who will remain unnamed] piped up; Pablo’s off playing the sympathy card, passing himself as a Chilean miner survivor!  Pablo, have you no shame?  Did it work?  See on the pitch, Da Thug

"WHAT ELSE? NOBS WORLD!!"

Good evening rugby fans, where ever you are in the World of Nobs.  We are now into the final month of our rugby season but lots still going on as  we head to the wire.  This Sunday we are in Markham for a match, with a 1pm kickoff.  For those of you who would like to car pool from Burlington we are departing Sherwood Forest at 11:30 am.  Next Sunday the 24th we are home for a re-match with Muddy York and a 1pm kickoff.  The 27th, a Wednesday has our match with the mighty Staff College.  The fixture is set for a 6:30 kick off under the lights at the Cru.  On Saturday November 6th it is Cup Day.  This year the game has been moved to Markham and the kickoff is "10:30 am" giving everyone time to get a game in, have a beer and some grub and then scoot on up to the Square for the Cup Day games.  Then of course some of us can get home in time for a nap!  There is touch this Sunday in Burlington at 1pm and Dave Tait who is spearheading a drive to co-ordinate the weekend touch games for the club would like to hear of your intentions.  Dave can be reached at dstait@mac.com  Let him know and Saturday  evening he will advise on what will be happening Sunday.  We here at the Nobs World Head quarters will monitor the situation and also pass this on.  A few other things, on November the 14th we will be holding our 3rd annual East / West season finale game, more on that game in the near future.   I have received word from FIFA that indoor soccer will start in Burlington at Sherwood Forest on Tuesday, November 2nd at 7pm.  They asked us to use Tuesday so as not to conflict with any Premiership games and effect gate receipts.  Rolf will soon provide us with the cost for soccer.  The Dome is now under way and the Dnome Ranger has things well in hand already issuing warnings to those who do not heed his  code of the Dome.  Beware those who would challenge the all seeing, all knowing Gnome.   See you on the pitch in Markham this Sunday or at least get you butt of the couch for touch, Da Thug

FW: NOBS WORLD UPDATE

I received word from Dave Burnett to clarify who can play in the Dome on Thursdays.  You must be already a paid up dome participant.  This is not open to non-registered dome players.   Da Thug

I suggest an email to all to explain the Bubble is for those registered for the Bubble only and that the list is already full with 4 on the waiting list.

NOBS WORLD OCT 7. TOUCH, MUDDY YORK, STAFF COLLEGE AND MUCH MORE

Greeting and salutations from all of us, here at the Nobs World Headquarters!!  We are now into October and Thanksgiving is nearly upon us.  Last long weekend before Christmas but for those of you already on a fixed income, life is a holiday daily!  Before we talk about what’s going on this weekend, let’s talk about touch tonight and into the future.  With our day light playing time being reduced, touch is getting under way early.  The sooner we get a quorum, the sooner we can get going.  If Kevin can make it out early, why not you?  Tonight is tentatively the last day of touch outdoors before we head into the dome on October 14th.  If the dome is not ready to use we will let you know.  I haven’t received word yet from FIFA but it won’t be long till we head indoors on Tuesday’s for “Soccer Night in Canada.”  As soon as soccer details are available we will pass it on to you.

This weekend there is no game on but touch will be run in Burlington at 1pm.  Next Sunday the 17th it is off to Markham for a game, kickoff is 1pm.  More info on this game to come out next week.  Our fixture officer Peter Allan has been hard at work and is pleased to announce upcoming fixtures with the Staff College and a re-match with the Muddy York.  The Muddy York will pay us a visit on October 24th for a game in Burlington; kickoff is set for 1pm.  After tough negotiations the DND, we have cleared security checks and are pleased to announce a fixture with the Staff College on Wednesday, October 27 at the Cru.  Kickoff is set for 6:30 PM.   A new updated schedule has been sent out to you and you should also note the Cup Day Game has been changed to November 6th and the game will be in Markham not the Square.  Kickoff is set for 11AM.  More on this fixture as we get closer.  See you on the pitch in the daylight tonight, Da Thug

P.S.  Sometimes we men can be led astray without adult supervision.  The pictures below are a fine example of this and I am sure the female adults in you’re life would concur.

NOBS WORLD OCTOBER 1ST. 2010 "NO GAME THIS SUNDAY"

Gentlemen, it is with great regret that I have to inform you that our game this Sunday in Peterborough has been cancelled.  Touch will be run as usual in Burlington at 1pm.  Next Sunday October 10th we have no game scheduled but the Muddy York is running a tournament that weekend in Markham.  Yesterdays Nobs World Part 2 has all the details.  Touch will be run in Burlington October 10th.  On October 17 we have a game in Markham and I cannot stress how important it is we turn out in force.  Have a nice weekend, Da Thug
