Fwd: NOBS WORLD. "ASK NOT WHAT YOUR RUGBY CLUB CAN DO FOR YOU; ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR RUGBY CLUB"

Subject: NOBS WORLD.  "ASK NOT WHAT YOUR RUGBY CLUB CAN DO FOR YOU; ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR RUGBY CLUB"

Good afternoon to everyone across the NOBS World; where ever you are.  Not much happening this weekend, so we'll have a lecture in a bit.

There is touch this Sunday in Burlington at 1pm.  All are invited.

Last Sunday we had our annual golf tournament.  Kudo's to Dave Tait for his fine organizing of the event.  Special thanks' to Scott Lewis and the food.  Our roving reporter, Bob Nye said it was well run, well attended and a highly successful post tournament meal.

Years ago; the late, great, Saint Burnett told me; "Craig, the most important thing for this club is the team.  Without a team, we will stop attracting new players, and become a social club.  It will only take a few years and we will no longer have a club."

On August 16th we had a fixture with the GITS, at East York Collegiate, our second game there.  In our first visit there we had only 10 players and the GITs supplemented our numbers, so we had 15 and a spare.  On the 16th we had 3 players show up.  4 players' [including myself] informed me thy would not be able to attend.  So where were the rest of us?

If we don't travel; teams will stop playing us at home.  This is doesn't bode well for our future.

"Ask, not what your rugby club can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your rugby club. '

See you Sunday, Da Thug.

FW: Mel Crossfield wins an award

Good afternoon to everyone across the NOBS World.  A number of NOBS recently travelled to Peterborough, to participate in the Platinum Oldies.  Our Emperor For Life, Mel Crossfield received a life time achievement award, for his contributions to rugby.

Chris, Mike, Mel, Jack, John and Brian

>

> Craig,

>

> Could you please pass this message on to the NOB's, thank you.

>

> Five NOB's went down to Peterborough on the weekend, and played in the game for the visitors who beat the Peterborough Pagans over 50's.

>

> At a reception after the game an engraved cup was  awarded to Mel Crossfield, in absentia, for his work over the years for Old Boys Rugby.

>

> I accepted the cup on Mel's behalf and gave a speech about what a great guy Mel is. Yes I know I lied through my teeth, but I did not want to spoil the occasion by telling the truth.

>

> I am sure that we all will agree that Mel made a great contribution to Rugby, and we are all still entertained by stories of his antics over the years. Need I say any more than 'Captain Mustard'.

>

> Mel has let me know that he is willing to accept anyone's congratulations if they buy him a beer to put in the cup.

FW: Peterborough Platinum Oldies

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World; where ever you are.  Big weekend coming up with rugby on both days, for all ages.  Saturday it's the Peterborough Platinum Oldies, and Sunday it's the GITS at East York Collegiate.  Dave Tait has received information for the Saturday event and passed it on to us, as well as a request for more people to join in.  The Krock's need to arrange the food, so they need to have some idea of the numbers.  Check out the enclosed attachment and then let Dave know.   Da Thug.

Hi Guys,

The Platinum Oldies is on next Saturday in Peterboro.

So far we do not have very many people going, but there will be an over 50's game and an over 60's game. Also a touch game.

These are always fun events with a really good crowd at Peterboro RFC. Please encourage people to head down there, see the notice attached for timing.

In addition they will be presenting engraved mugs for people that have contributed to oldies rugby. If you can think of anyone that deserves such and honour let me know ASAP as the engravings will be done next week.

Dave Tait

FW: NOBS WORLD; SPECIAL LATE NIGHT EDITION. AUGUST 7TH 2015

Ok, so I know you’re getting this in the afternoon, but one of the Senior NOBS executives has asked me if I could send out a special edition!  I just couldn’t  resist putting that in the headline.  So here we go with a weekend update.

As you know tonight is the second leg of our soccer series.  If you’re playing, be there no later than 6:30pm, or face the wrath of VanGaalfoyle.   Kickoff is for 7pm, seating is limited.

I have received word from Sunday touch Guru, Dave Tait, that there is “NO” touch this Sunday; but when one door closes, another one opens.  Cricket is on and here’s your opportunity to join in.  Derek Wiggins would like you to be there for 12:30, with the match getting underway at 1pm.  Sun and fun, on a Sunday.  Alan Lloyd has sent along a photo to accompany our cricket request.  Thanks’ Al.

All the best, Da Thug

P.S. Rugby next weekend on both Saturday and Sunday.

NOBS WORLD AUGUST 4TH 2015 : Cricket this Sunday

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World; where ever you are.  Here we are into  August and a number events are coming up.  Before we get to that, we have attached a report from John VanGaalfoyle on our last fixture with the BOTSC.  You’ll have to read it to find out the final score.  August 7th [this Friday] we are back at it again for the second leg of  the Sherwood Forest Derby.  Premiership games the next day will seem dull, after this!

This Sunday is our annual cricket event and we have all the details you’ll need to know, below from our new cricket wizard Derek Wiggins.

August 15th is the Platinum Oldies in Peterborough and the next day it’s a game at East York Collegiate as we take on the GITS.  Lots for everyone.

Hi Craig...

Could you send out this reminder to one-and-all please....feel free to edit as you see fit...

This Sunday is our annual Cricket match against the Burlington Welsh Choir....we will be meeting at the Centuars clubhouse at 12:30, for a 1:00pm start.

Players should bring something for the afternoon tea interval...a plate of sandwiches is the usual offering, but anything edible that can be shared is welcome!

We need a good turnout to make this afternoon a success so please come out and try your hand with bat & ball!

All equipment is supplied, and white cricket attire is not obligatory!

For those not familiar with the game here is a short rundown of the basics....

Well, that clears things up...hope to see you on Sunday!

Derek Wiggins
