This Sunday, given the Canada Versus Italy game, there will be NO TOUCH.
Just a reminder, there is a full suite of game at the club on Saturday, so drop in and catch a Centaurs game.
Thanks Phil

Chuck asked me to pass on the following email.
I just wanted to send everyone in our community a quick note of thanks for all your kind thoughts and messages over the last few days which have made a big difference for me and my family. As I think you all know by now I had the surgery about 48 hours ago and was released for home recovery yesterday afternoon feeling better than anyone expected. I have been too tired to respond to each of you individually thus far, but be sure that they made a big difference. My kids read most of them to me while in hospital. They were truly astonished at the number of beers I owed to that many people in that many places! I will try and be in touch with everyone personally over the coming days.
In the meantime I plan to be down at the club Thursday after touch and look forward to chatting with everyone then.
Again thank you for all your support and kindness. It made A BIG difference for Teresa and the rest of the family too.
See you all soon
Cheers
Chuck
As the communication guy, you think I would know! Sorry, but I was mistaken about the Alumni game this weekend. Given the full set of games on Saturday, the Alumni game got bumped. So I guess our summer starts early! As a reminder the Centaur’s have a full Saturday with all home games (men’s and women) with some of the NOBs playing with the Berties. Head down if you are looking for a festive day. Alternatively, the GITS are playing Bruce County, in Bruce County on Saturday @3:00, so anyone looking for a day trip can get a game.
Also this weekend on Sunday is the Canada vs Italy match at BMO 12:00 KO, which I know a number of folks will be attending. Given Sunday’s event I am not sure if there will be Touch on Sunday (I will confirm)?
Stay tuned for summer events. Keep up your training!
Phil
Calling all NOBs, and Friends:
This weekend our schedule shows an Centaurs Alumni Game. This is where the old Centaur club players come out of the woodwork and relive their glory days! It is our job to bring them back down to earth. This is always a good social game and an opportunity to chat up the lost Centaurs to the point they want to come out and play with the NOBs. This day is also a great Centaur club day with a suite of games to enjoy.
I have not confirmed a KO time, but I suspect it will be 10:30 ish on Saturday, June 25 given the other fixtures. This will be a sanctioned event for those who are not registered.
This will be our last contact fixture before the summer break. There is only one NOB I can think of who has a legitimate reason not to be at the game! Over the summer period there are some more social activities (soccer, golf, cricket) to keep us occupied along with Touch.
Once I get game details I will send them along.
Please respond “YES” you are available so we can get a head count.
Thanks, Phil
All:
I want to share with you an update regarding Chuck’s condition. Recently he went away on vacation to England and Italy. He returned early from his trip for medical reasons. In the end, he was admitted to hospital on Friday diagnosed with a head tumour and operated on very early this morning. Chuck is awake and may be out of the hospital as early as tomorrow – good news indeed. Our sincere thoughts to Chuck and family for a speedy and complete recovery.
Thanks
Phil
What a spectacular day for Rugby on Sunday. Thanks to all that made the game allowing us to play a good full 15 aside game. Bruce County was the victor with some strong running plays and some loose ball on our side. But, in the spirit of Old Boys, last score wins! So a moral victory in the end for the NOB’s side. The NOBS ranks were filled out with the addition of some GITS, our friends from Lockport/Buffalo, Hammer Town, along with a few Centaurs to round it out. Our scrumming and rucking were strong, which gave us good possession. We scored a couple of nice trys in the game moving the ball well between the forwards and backs (some of which were forwards). Bruce County took full advantage of our miscues making all the difference. After the match Craig, Yohan and Andy provided a fine pasta and salad meal enjoyed by all.
There were some new and familiar faces out with the NOBS on Sunday, we want to see you out again (John, Rob, Alex to name a few)! In the fall, we will be looking for a date to go to Bruce County and enjoy another game against a good side. In the meantime, there is no planned game this coming weekend for the NOBs (June 18-19). At Grimsby they are hosting an old boys game on June 18th as part of their club’s 40th celebration (all welcome, festival coverage).
Our next fixture is on Saturday, June 24th – Centaur’s Alumni game. When I get the details I will pass them on…otherwise there is regular touch Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday to keep you fit.
Cheers.
Phil

All:
Thanks to all that have responded for this Sunday. We are 13 confirmed, with some help from our friends (the GITS). We are still looking for 3-4 more to provide some relief to our high performing athletes! Rolf and Craig will be providing a fine spread of food after the match, for those that have earn it….
See you Sunday – 1:00 KO, try and be there by 12:30 ish so we can get sorted.
Thanks
Phil
All – Just a reminder about this Sunday’s game with Bruce County at home. We are still a few short, but much better showing than past weekends. It would be good to have a few substitutions! Bruce County is a good side and are travelling, so let’s give them a good game.
Just respond YES to this email that you are available.
Thanks
Phil

Subject: Ontario Blues Tryouts
Phil can you pleas ask the Group if anyone is taking their kid to the Blues open tryouts this weekend. I am looking for a lift there from the waterdown area.
Thanks

Silverbacks Game:
With 10 confirmed on Saturday our numbers dwindled to 6 with 3 having a change in plans (life happens), and one no show, we still made our way to Hamilton to take on the Silverbacks. We played a good 8 on 8 game, that swelled to 10 on 10, then receded back to 8 on 8. In the end, the Silverbacks triumphed by one try after 4 x 10 min quarters. It was a game that looked a lot like touch, but with tackling! The two hand touch didn’t stop anyone. Thanks to the Silverbacks for the game and hospitality.
Now, for the upcoming game – This week Sunday, June 12 at home, 1:00 KO against Bruce County. Bruce County puts out a good side and deserve a good game. Several weeks ago we cancelled a game with them because of a lack of numbers, this game will be rescheduled. In the meantime, we can be gracious hosts and provide them with a good game this Sunday. We want to have our side sorted by Thursday of this week, so let me know if you are available. Just a reminder there is no NOBs fixture the following week June 19, but I understand there is a game (all comers) in Grimsby on June 18 as part of their 40th. I will provide more info later.
A simple YES will do in response to this email to indicate your availability.
It was suggested to me that we should look at another way of communicating using “WhatsApp” it is a smartphone messaging system where you can have groups set up (i.e. NOBs). Whoever is part of the group will receive the text message and equally any reply goes to everyone – a group chat. Alternatively, we can look to set up Teamer for the NOBs as a way to confirm players. I am looking for feedback or a clear preference based on the use of such tech tools. I have used neither, so have no bias, yet!
Thanks
Phil
Still looking for more confirmations for Sunday’s game. Please let me know with a simple YES if you are available. Let’s see if we can bring the success we had with the opening weekend and Chambray to the game. This game has coverage if you have not registered with Canada or Ontario Rugby Union.
Field information - Closest field to Hornets Clubhouse, parallel to Upper Kenilworth – Mohawk Sports Complex
Next week is a home game (June 12) against Bruce County. We stood them up last week, we really do not want to stand them up again.
Thanks
Phil
Chambray Updateà As usual, they are fit, young and don’t give up, but thankfully we are crafty, skilled, and robust. A well contested game last night with a 3 to 2 try victory for the NOBs with support from some GITS. As Denis highlighted last night the pitch was outstanding, lush and game ready (translated - undersized, the occasional patch of grass, sticks and stones). The quality of the field notwithstanding, both teams were respectful of the poor conditions and took it all in stride. From the NOBs, it was a game where we started well, lost our focus in the middle, but found it again in the end to get the winning try. I do recall Jason Currie scored the NOBs first try with a fine seconded effort, but I did not note who got the other two, so I will guess it was the backs! Thank you to all those that played and participated in the game. Special thanks to Jason, Mike and James (GITS) who rounded out the team. Back at the mess (translated – old 1920’s mansion house) Chambray were great hosts with food and drink. I must say the showers and bar is definitely a step up from the usual. Player of the match was Tommy, with honourable mention to Carrie. In the fall we will be facing a new crop of Chambray players! As we get older, they stay the same age…
Silverbacks – We want to get a head count for Sunday June 5 (Mohawk Sports Park, Field #1, 1:00 KO). I confirmed a few players yesterday. Please respond to this email “YES” if you are available.
Thanks
Phil
