Gents,

I was by the Trafalgar Memorial Hospital this am and met Jane as I was entering. Larry is in ICU1,  Room13.

He is fairly heavily sedated at this time and, while the hospital is allowing visitors, Jane didn't think he was up to it just yet.

Folks, Jane Doyle just called me from Oakville Hospital, apparently Larry has had another stroke and has been re-admitted. The early prognosis is that he is going to be alright but Jane wanted everyone to know that if you have been invited to their annual Boxing Day open house it is understandably cancelled this year.

Craig (Morley) could you please circ to the NOBS and confirm you got this…..tnx….JKT

A holiday song for the NOBs to help everyone get into the Christmas spirit

Cheers

It's the most wonderful time of NOBs year
With Tait's Scottish bellow
When Riley is mellow from drinking his beer
It's the most wonderful time of NOBs year

It's the hap-happiest season of all
When the scotch proved too tempting and the beer case is empty
When Kev came to call
It's the hap- happiest season of all

There'll be rum punch for downing
And sorrows for drowning
And Gareth passed out in the snow
Nick Parks won't be fine
When Keith drinks his wine
And the bottle he won't let go

It's the most wonderful time of NOB's year
With Bob Nye's mistltoeing
And NOB's tears a flowing when Chris Mant drank our beer
It's the most wonderful time of NOB's year

John Noble is frowning
Because Rolfie was downing
All the beer that he had in his glass
Then Dumont was spotted
Getting quite knotted
And Brooksie fell on his ass

It's the most wonderful time of NOB's year
With Tim Ellis quite pissed
That he must have missed when Craig drank his beer
It's the most wonderful time of NOB's year

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World.  Been awhile since our last update, so let's catch up on things.  Our season came to a close 3 weeks ago when we hosted the Staff College.  Once again our military friends used the old trick, saying many of their players hadn't played for awhile, or were new to the game and could we power down the scrums.  Of course we the gracious hosts said no problem and they took away one of our biggest weapons and proceeded to use their youth and fitness and wack us all over the pitch.  Like Chuck said.  "I started playing you guys 14 years ago, and I am now 14 years older and you all look the same!"  Well we won the game and survived the beating.  Can't wait for next year.

Our winter touch season is well underway, with outdoor runs EVERY Sunday at 1pm in Burlington  and in the Dome, Tuesday and Thursday.

Tim Ellis is leading the charge for our upcoming trip to FT. Lauderdale at the end of February.  If you're interested, Tim would like to hear from you.

By now you have probably noticed that we did not have the Awards dinner yet.  It will be happening on Friday, January 16th in the Centaurs clubhouse.  We will have more details in the near future.

While you're putting that date in your planner, our AGM is Sunday, January 25th following the touch run around at 3pm.  All positions are open and a nominations board will be posted in the Centaurs clubhouse.  Ask not what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club. Democracy in action.

All right, Christmas is coming, and the NOBS are getting fat, try to make it Sunday and that is that!  Da Thug

Good evening to everyone in the NOBS World.  Merry Christmas, Seasons Greetings to everyone, where ever you are.  I would love to hear from you with a greeting that I will pass on to everyone.  I have already heard from our mate Andrew Jackson now living back in the UK.  I am sure this Sunday around 6 PM his time, Andrew and his son Evan will look at each other and wish they were joining the rest of the NOBS this Sunday at 1PM for our Jingle Bells Touch Run.  Looking forward to seeing you, maybe wear something festive, bring along something tasty to nibble on after the run around. Come on out and see all your friends.

I would like to take this opportunity to express our condolences and sympathy to our friend and teammate, Stu Riley who's father recently passed away.  Looking forward to seeing you soon brother.

Let's have a look at our calendar over the holidays.  Touch will continue each and every Sunday over the holidays.  Touch will still be on Tuesday's, while there will be no touch on Thursdays, December 25th and January 1st.  The Centaurs will be holding their annual Christmas Eve Carol singing, time TBA.  I am not sure about what is happening with their Boxing Day or New Years day run arounds, but once I know, I will, let you know.  Come on down.

Now about the Christmas greetings.  Where ever you are in the NOBS WORLD we want to hear from you.  Send your greetings, and where your from and it will be passed along.

Looking forward to hearing from you,  Da Thug

A Poem for old rugby players...........

When the battle scars have faded
And the truth becomes a lie
And the weekend smell of liniment
Could almost make you cry.

When the last rucks well behind you
And the man that ran now walks
It doesn't matter who you are
The mirror sometimes talks

Have a good hard look old son!
The melons not that great
The snoz that takes a sharp turn sideways
Used to be dead straight

You're an advert for arthritis
You're a thoroughbred gone lame
Then you ask yourself the question
Why the hell you played the game?

Was there logic in the head knocks?
In the corks and in the cuts?
Did common sense get pushed aside?
By manliness and guts?

Do you sometimes sit and wonder
Why your time would often pass
In a tangled mess of bodies
With your head up someone's......?

With a thumb hooked up your nostril
Scratching gently on your brain
And an overgrown Neanderthal
Rejoicing in your pain!

Mate – you must recall the jersey
That was shredded into rags
Then the soothing sting of Dettol
On a back engraved with tags!

It's almost worth admitting
Though with some degree of shame
That your wife was right in asking
Why the hell you played the game?

Why you'd always rock home legless
Like a cow on roller skates
After drinking at the clubhouse
With your low down drunken mates

Then you'd wake up – check your wallet
Not a solitary coin
Drink Berocca by the bucket
Throw an ice pack on your groin

Copping Sunday morning sermons
About boozers being losers
While you limped like Quasimodo
With a half a thousand bruises!

Yes – an urge to hug the porcelain
And curse Sambuca's name
Would always pose the question
Why the hell you played the game!

And yet with every wound re-opened
As you grimly reminisce it
Comes the most compelling feeling yet
God, you bloody miss it!

From the first time that you laced a boot
And tightened every stud
That virus known as rugby
Has been living in your blood

When you dreamt it when you played it
All the rest took second fiddle
Now you're standing on the sideline
But your hearts still in the middle

And no matter where you travel
You can take it as expected
There will always be a breed of people
Hopelessly infected

If there's a teammate, then you'll find him
Like a gravitating force
With a common understanding
And a beer or three, of course

And as you stand there telling lies
Like it was yesterday old friend
You'll know that if you had the chance
You'd do it all again

You see – that's the thing with rugby
It will always be the same
And that, I guarantee
Is why the hell you played the game

NOBS WORLD DECEMBER 19th 2014, MERRY CHRISTMAS

Da Thug
