NOBs News - The Opening Weekend in Review.

Season Opener Weekend Wrap Up

Well what a weekend it was, Club Night / Membership Night Friday and Festival Games on Sunday.  By all accounts a great start to the 2016 season.

Please read the entire email, there are important upcoming events

Club /Membership Night:

Although not able to attend, I did hear it was a great night.   I understand Eric Andrae draped his 6-month old son in a club tie to get a free President’s beer.  Another notable item was the selection of cheese to go with the wine pairing brought to us by Cristina Flores.   Rolf collected full membership dues for 16 individuals as well as a couple of social members.  Overall, an excellent first ever Club Night that we will be looking to repeat on a quarterly basis.  What was great to see were new NOBs at the event as well as some past members surfacing for the event! Thank you to all that attended, and more thanks to those that helped make this happen.  Stay tuned for the next Club Night.

Game Day:

TOUCH - David Tait reported a great turnout for touch rugby on Opening Day Sunday, despite the rather cold and damp weather. A number of new players including four new ladies gave it a try.   The game was played at a hectic pace as usual, and despite one of the ladies being bowled over by a rampaging Ravi, they all said they had enjoyed the experience and would come back.  We are looking to expand the Sunday / Tuesday / Thursday touch program to be inclusive of all skill level, so if you know someone that would be interested bring them along next Sunday or during the week.

CONTACT - The eagerly awaited opening of the 2016 Old Boys contact rugby season was a three team tournament featuring the NOB's, GITS, Bruce County, and supported by a number of players from the Silverbacks (Hamilton and Grimsby). In cold and damp conditions the first match was between the GITS and Bruce County, the hotly contested match featured lots of action. The second match featured the NOB's and GITS, the strong NOB"s pack produced clean and quick ball allowing their back line to run in 5 tries, the GITS fought back to finally score a try at the final whistle. The third and final match of the day featured the NOB's and Bruce County, the match went back and forth with the NOB's finally prevailing 2 tries to 1.

Special thanks to those that helped out in a big way to the success: virtuoso grilling by Baz and Kevin; bartending by Johan and Dave and Andy Maunder.  I suspect there were more unsung heroes that made the day a big success.  And thanks to all our friends from GITS, Bruce County, and Silverbacks (Hamilton/Grimsby) for helping us celebrate the start of the 2016 season!

Overall, a grand weekend to start 2016.
