Subject: Last Sunday and Next
Craig please distribute. ThanksThis past Sunday saw the NOBS take to the field in this season's home opener. The best way to put it is: It was a great day for rugby football! The weather cooperated as we hosted Bruce County in their inaugural game of Old Boys!Well done to them for playing in the right spirit, and it proved to be a very competitive match with excellent plays on both sides. However I did have a gentle word with them about arriving an hour early and stretching/practising for most of that time-I was afraid our players might by frightened off by that kind of thing which has no precedent in Old Boys........Again many thanks to everyone who turned out, players and spectators, for what was a fun beginning to the season. As you know we have the return match with Bruce County this Sunday (May 31 1;00 p.m.). They proved to be excellent travellers arriving with 18 players and a host of supporters and I expect us to do no less for our return fixture. The reality of Old Boys rugby is if we are to have good competitive matches we must be prepared to do our share of travelling or these teams won't be interested in playing us in Burlington. To this end I would ask everyone who played on Sunday to send an email by Wednesday to Tim Ellis indicating whether you are playing this Sunday or not. I would also ask all players who weren't there on the weekend to send him confirmation as well for this week.Tim is close to confirming some additional games for the season and we will send you a schedule update shortly. With such a great start to the year I'm looking forward to a terrific season. And one more reminder that the Franconia tour is the weekend starting Thursday June 4. If you haven't already, let me know if you are attending. On a final note our friend Tony Windsor seems to have done himself a mischief last Sunday and managed to injure himself early in what was to have been his final NOBS game before he and his family move back to England. It's the fate of thoroughbreds-always breaking down.......Tony I hope you still come out before leaving so we can all have a crack at signing the cast!CheersChuck
