It was a good day at the park yesterday as we continued to Celebrate Chuck with a game against the GITS. It was a great turnout for the game by players and spectators alike. At the beginning of the game both teams came together with Chuck’s family and friends at centre for a few words, then we clapped Chuck off the field for the last time. Three Cheers for Chuck! The attached photo shows all those assembled.
Another highlight of the day was having Craig out for the beginning of the game. He was welcomed by GITs and NOBS alike. Thanks to Brian for setting up the field, and Rolf, Andy and the team for food and beverages.
The game was competitive, with the first 20 minutes being a toss up. The second 20 favoured the NOBs with some great runs by Dave Jones (his first old boys game) and the backs. And in the last two 10s, the GITS started to wear the NOB forwards down working hard to get back some trys. In the end it was 6 to 6.
Despite the great game, there was an incident late in the game involving name calling. I am not going to go into the details, but we need to learn from this that words matter and there is no place in old boys rugby for talking back, mouthing off or name calling. Sincere apologies have been provided by the individual involved, the Silverbacks and the NOBs at the game as well as in writing. The Executive will review the incident in greater detail and look at what we can do better going forward.
Thanks to all the came out yesterday.
Phil
