NOBS WORLD, FRIDAY JULY 26TH

Good afternoon rugby fans, throughout the NOBS World.  Big game tomorrow at 11am sharp as we do battle with the Centaurs Alumni, the BARFS!   The Centaur lads will be coming out hard tomorrow looking for a victory after losses the last 2 years.

The clubhouse in Burlington was all a buzz yesterday evening, with the place full of past stars and visiting dignitaries.   Anticipation was high for their 40th Anniversary, with things getting underway today with a golf tournament, with all types of events happening over the next 3 days.

We have been asked to remind everyone taking part in tomorrow’s game, that they are under a tight schedule and we must be underway by 11.  The later we start, the shorter the game.  Let’s get there early, dressed, warmed up and ready to play.

I have been asked to let everyone know, by our president, Pope John Noble that touch is on this Sunday at 1pm.  How can you be a president and pope?  Which one supersedes the other?

See you on Saturday, Da Thug

NOBS WORLD JULY 19TH 2013: We had them worried ...

Good afternoon rugby fans, all across the NOBS World, on this sweltering July afternoon.

The weekend is upon us and the troops will be on the move tomorrow, as they invade Lockport NY.   The GITS have loaned us some of their tougher warriors to bolster our ranks.

Given the combination of players away, people injured, and folks on holiday, there will be no touch for this weekend.

Next Saturday is the annual Alumni Game, with the Burlington Centaurs.  Kickoff is at 11 AM. We are part of an all day schedule of games so being ready to go for 11AM is very important.

Last week the NOBS took to the field on Friday and Sunday.  Friday evening NOBU took on the Burlington Old Timers Soccer Club and we have a complete report below from games chairman, manager, Sir Alex Guilfoyle.

Sunday we were at the Cru to take on the Templars in their initial game.   The Templars needed some help from the gathered Oldboy’s on hand that day.   The game was carried out under a blazing sun and hot humid conditions, but that didn’t hold back either squad, with 12 trys between the 2 sides, with the NOBS edging out the home side.  Man of the match, was forward turned fullback; the Templar’s Ryan Morrison, who time and time again may try saving tackles.

Have yourself a good weekend, Da Thug

Subject: We had them worried ....

Friday was the first night of the 2013 back-to-back soccer games with BOTSC (Burlington Old Timers Soccer Club), and with 20 minutes to the final whistle, we were still leading!

In fact, we have broken our old record as Andrew Jackson sped up the left wing to score in the opening minute of the game, and then to prove it was no fluke he scored again within ten minutes. With speed and fitness by Andrew, Jonathon Goldie, James Raynor and captain Jason Leek, we held them under pressure and I would have to say that the first half of the game was ours.

Newcomers to us from the Tuesday night soccer, Dave Findley and Craig Howells helped anchor the defence and the midfield until the soccer boys started to work together in the second half and let the ball do the work, as we ran around them. They tied up the game and then with 20 minutes to go, a BOTSC defender, with a little help from Marc Dumont(!) went down in the 18 yard box, and we conceded a penalty which our usually solid keeper, Chris Mant, was unable to stop.

BOTSC took advantage of our empty midfield in the closing quarter of the game and despite some amazing runs by Ted Ota (who drove all the way from Orillia to play!) we were unable to prevent the last goal, and the final score of 5-3.

However, we should be proud of the way in which we commanded the first half and I am sure we will learn from our tactical mistakes and tie up the series in the next game on Friday, August 9.

Thanks again to Rolf for providing the food. On Sunday morning the soccer boys were still talking about our speed and fitness … and Rolf’s curry!

Thanks Mackenzie, as always for running the bar and putting up with all the helpful advice from our side of the bar.

John “Man U” Guilfoyle.

Craig,

I have entered a team in the Over 55 Division at Saranac....the mighty “Odds and Sods”.

Hopefully this will be an annual entry.

We could use any warm bodies from your area that might be interested in a great rugby event.

We play Aug.2nd  and hopefully the 4th....Friday and Sunday...Saturday is an off-day, so then, we play golf.

Could you possibly pass this on to any Over-55s in your circle who might be interested?

Thanks,

NOBS WORLD, "SOCCER NIGHT IN CANADA"

Good morning to everyone in the NOBS World; it’s time for the weekend update.

The field above is quiet right now, but 7pm tonight its “Soccer Night in Burlington”  At the end of this email there is a message from the NOBS  soccer manager, “Sir Alex Guilfoyle.”  He has asked me to remind all of you to wear your  “GREEN” NOBS jerseys.

You won’t look as good as Clarence and Barry, but do us proud.

Touch this Sunday is at the Cru to correspond with the fixture against the Templar’s.   Both get under way at 1pm.

Speaking of the Templar’s game, let’s have a good turn out against, what we are being told a strong side.

One last thing, next Thursday , July 18th we do not have our regular field for touch.  For some reason, last night we were evicted from our normal field, but checking our permit, we should have had it.  We have the field booked until the end of September.

Good luck tonight folks and see you Sunday at the Cru,  Da Thug

All NOBs Soccer players!

Tomorrow night we will be wearing our green jerseys.

If you do not have one, we will have some spares on the sideline.

Please be ready to warm up at 6:30 p.m

Make sure you have water, it will be hot.

John "Sir Alex" Guilfoyle

NOBS WORLD, JULY 9TH 2013, JULY UPDATE

Good evening to everyone across the NOBS World.  Last Sunday the GITS were in town and it was one tuff tussle.  The game came down right to the end with the GITS putting in some late scores to take the day.  Thanks to the Centaurs and our cooks for the day, Chris Mant and Kevin who put on some top drawer grub.  Thanks also to our referee, Peter Kijak who stepped in as a last minute replacement.  Sunday was not an easy day to be a referee.

Friday night, the 12th, it's soccer night in Burlington, with the Burlington old boy soccer lads.  Kickoff is 7pm at Sherwood Forest.

Sunday, its a game at the Cru to do battle with the Knights Templar's.  Lets make sure were all out for this.  1pm kickoff.

July 20th we are travelling to Lockport NY.  This is a Saturday fixture, in which a number of players plan to stay over night.  The Lockport lads have promised a pig roast and all the Genny Cream Ales we can swill down.  If you plan on going down, see John Noble, Kevin Bloska, or Jason Leek.  For those of you who just have a day pass, we will be car pooling from Burlington.  If that's your plan of attack, let me know, ctmorley@cogeco.ca

NOBS WORLD. GITS @ HOME TOMORROW, BE THERE!! DON'T MISS THIS: kids doing haka

Good afternoon to everyone in the NOBS World.  Big day tomorrow with the GITS in town, and boy are we smarting from the butt whacking they gave us 2 weeks ago.  It's "ALL HANDS ON DECK TOMORROW!"  I  just got off the phone with the Weather Network and they say it's going to be a crappy day for a visit to the beach, or working in the back garden, but a great day for rugby!!
Touch is also on tomorrow, as it is "EVERY SUNDAY."  1pm for the run around.
Next Sunday we are at the Cru for a game against the Templar's.  This may be an away fixture, but the Cru is like another home game. 1pm kickoff.
The week after we are away for an International fixture, in Lockport NY.  Plans are underway to stay over Saturday night, or you can make it a day trip.  Plans to carpool for the day trip are underway.  More to follow.
The next Saturday it will be the 3rd annual NOBS vs. BARFS as the Centaurs hold their 40th Anniversary day.  This is going to be a full slate of games, and our action gets underway at 11am.  I have a full information package on the event which I will be forwarding in the near future.
Last but not least; I have been asked to remind everyone that our touch runs are for fun and exercise; it's not the World Cup.  I am as guilty as anyone.

Ok, check out the Haka below, and realize why Canadian rugby still has a long way to go.

See you on the pitch tomorrow,  Da Thug

Fw: Happy Canada day Eh!

As I write this, dusk is beginning to descend on the NOBS World.  In the distance small gunfire can be heard, just as it did yesterday, and the day before.  As the day grows darker, the natives will grow bolder with more explosions, only to be answered by a neighboring group, who will up the ante.  When darkness, pushes away the daylight, the battle will commence.  I wonder what there doing in Beirut tonight?

"HAPPY CANADA DAY!"

At the end of all this, check out an original rendition of our national anthem; one that all beer swilling rugby players, will nod their heads in approval.

So we are now into July and lots going on before August.

You have already heard the call to arms from the man rumored to replace Sir Alex Ferguson, John Guilfoyle and our 2 tests match's with  the BOTSC [Burlington Old Timers Soccer Club] the first one coming up on Friday July 12th and the second on Friday August 9th, with a 7pm kickoff, but before you think you can stroll in with your boots in hand; lace em up and jump on the pitch, [like a NOBS game] John wants you at Sherwood Forest for 6:30.  Both games are on the Centaurs pitch.  Let John know your intentions johnguilfoyle99@gmail.com  as spots will start to fill up quickly, now the word is out.

Speaking of a call to arms, this Sunday we will be hosting the GITS here in Burlington.  On June 23rd, we travelled to Toronto to take on the GITS and turned in a performance that one of my associates described  as a train wreck.  He was being kind.

This coming Sunday, and every game day we need "all hands on deck!"  I could print some of the other things that others who were there said, but my Emperor For Life Mel said, only print that, which you would have your mother read.

So ends the sermon.

Lets put on a good show for the GITS, this coming Sunday.  The Sunday after, the  14th there is a game in Oakville, to be hosted by the Templar's.  More details are to follow.

On July 20th, plans are underway for us to participate in a international  fixture, in Lockport NY.  This is a Saturday game, the first of 2 Saturday games in a row for us.  Our beloved president, Pope John Noble will have more to say about Lockport in the near future.

As I mentioned we have 2 Saturday games in a row.  On July 27th we will be back in Burlington, for our 3rd annual Burlington Alumni games, as we take on the BARFS.  Time for that game has yet to be established, but they will be out for blood, having dropped the previous 2.

Touch is on as always, and I can see from my notes, that  Jack Morrison has let us all know that the NOBS annual golf tournament is August 11th  Jack can be reached at s.j.morrison@sympatico.ca  This is a first rate golf tournament, well run and well attended, so let Jack know.

That's it!  If I have missed anything, let me know.  See you out against the marauding GITS, Da Thug

P.S. Don't forget to check out the national anthem below.

Happy Canada day Eh! July 1st

Only two weeks away!
