Good morning rugby fans, where ever you are in the NOBS World.  Don’t forget the game this Sunday at the Cru at 1pm.   Also, touch is going to be run this Sunday at the Cru..  Afterwards up in the clubhouse.  Something for everyone.

  Mark December 7^th on your calendar, for the NOBS Annual Awards night at Burlington, in the Centaurs clubhouse.   Tickets will go sale shortly.  Jason Leek has sent along an email for an upcoming NOBS winter mini- tour to no less than Las Vegas!! Gents,    there has been some interest in a tour/ trip to Las Vegas  for the  Las Vegas 7's  on the weekend of Feb 8,9,10   with the possibility of playing a regular old boys game against local opposition on one of the days. 

 

Preliminary investigations look like flight and hotel will be in the $400- 450 range,  3 day tickets to the 7's around $175.   Throw in some meals, transfers to and from airports and we are looking at around $750-850 all in plus spending  if we get sufficient numbers. 

 

Please let me know ASAP if you are interested and I can get the ball rolling.

NOBS WORLD OCTOBER 31, 2012

 

Good afternoon rugby fans across the NOBS World, as we mop up after 5 straight days of rain, not to mention hurricane Sandy.  All that will be forgotten by Sunday at 1pm, when the East / West game kicks off at the Cru. More on all of this in a bit, but let’s look at what happened last weekend.

  On a cold wet Saturday morning at the Square, a group of old boys rugby players gathered to take part in Markham’s Cup Day Game.  From what I understand, somebody won by a try, but no one is saying what side?   Mr. Bloska reports it was a wet, expensive day.  Well….I guess there’s a first time for everything.  Scott Hendry who is to play internationally for Canada in November said; “It was cold and wet; a good start to a full day of rugby.”   Andrew Jackson’ our resident Geordie stated, “it was a good run out, conditions were bliss, wind, rain and a guad mire of a pitch; perfect.”  I guess in Newcastle, the weather is a bit different in late October!  Well done to all of you who made the trip and played the game.

  This Sunday as stated is the East / West game at 1pm at the Cru.  This is the final game of the 2012 season.  The Burnett family will be on hand to usher a new era of the game as we re-name it after our favourite Super Gnome, Dave.   The game in the past has always been good, with the West having 2 wins and there has been a tie in the first 3 contests.   Come join us afterwards in the clubhouse, for food, drinks and a special presentation.  This Sunday only, touch will be run at the Cru, so that all can take in the festivities.

NOBS WORLD, OCTOBER 26TH 2012

Good morning, rugby fans all across the NOBS World, on this beautiful, late October, Friday. 

  Lots happening this weekend in rugby.  Tomorrow morning at 10:30, Old boys rugby kicks off things, with the annual Cup Day game, hosted by the Markham Gray Hares at the Square.  This should be a bang-up affair.  You can Google Fletchers Fields for driving instructions.

 

  Can't make it to the Square Saturday; there's touch in Burlington on Sunday at 1pm; as always.

 

Don't forget the season finale, November 4th at the Cru, with the 4th Annual East / West game.  1pm kickoff.

FW: Ottawa Irish Fall Old Boys Tens Festival ~ follow-up item, registration

Gents,

Since the aim is to try and get as many warm bodies to take part in the games on the 3^rd of November,  accordingly, we are pleased to add the following possibility to deal with the registration requirement:

To greatly simplify the issue of how to deal with unregistered players who wish to play,  Rugby Canada has provided us with a very attractive option that will allow us to register players on the day. We will collect $10 from anyone who requires this option. This will afford the same level of insurance as regular registration ~  BUT ONLY FOR THE DAY!

Obviously, this does not apply to any Old Boy who is already registered with their club.

So, to recap:

1)      Registration, for the currently non-registered, has been sorted out in a simple and cost-effective way.

2)      Cheap (free) accommodation is available so the drive home can be deferred until “safe”.

3)      Beer will be plentiful and “on sale”.

4)      Food will be plentiful and cheap.

5)      Did I mention beer?

6)      This will be a great event and a superb opportunity to close out the rugby year in a real rugby atmosphere.

There are not many excuses left!

I’d appreciate any advance indication that you can provide as to interest and likely numbers.

We hope to see many of you and/or your club-mates at Twin Elm on the 3^rd.

Gentlemen,

A few of minor updates/additions:

1)      The First Annual “Ottawa Irish Fall Old Boys Tens Festival Nov. 3^rd”  is just a component of an entire day of rugby that will celebrate and show-off  Twin Elm Rugby Park, and cap an excellent year of Rugby in Eastern Ontario. There will be club matches (friendlies) at all levels.

2)      To alleviate both potential cost and maximize safety, the Founders’ lounge will be available Saturday night, Nov.3^rd  as a makeshift dormitory for anyone who wants to stay over (from out of town, or in town....) ....bring an air mattress/foam pad and a sleeping bag. Don’t drink and drive....just drink... and get as early a start home as you wish on Sunday morning (almost as good as a mini-tour!). If there are sufficient overnighters, one of the Twin Elm Directors has offered to provide a waffle breakfast.,...and he is one of those “syrup snobs” ™ who does not believe in  table syrup....its maple syrup or nothing.... J

3)      There will be some excellent live rugby on TV as well as on the fields, and the beer inventory at the Park is too high for this time of year so will be “priced to clear”; food will be “crock-pot” dishes (beans, stew, etc. but plentiful and cheap).

Good afternoon rugby fans.  Not many games left this season; but this Saturday at 10:30am, it’s Cup Day at Fletchers Fields.  Markham has set this up for the Oldboy’s and it is shaping up to be a good game.  Come on out and join in this spirited affair that precedes the senior men’s rugby finals.  A full day of rugby.

 

  November 4^th is our last fixture; the 4^th Annual East / West game, to be held at the Cru; with a 1pm kickoff.  For this week only, touch will also be going on at the Cru.  We have a full plate of rugby, good food planned, along with a presentation as we re-name the East / West game.  Come join us and the Burnett family for this event.  Looking forward to seeing you there, Da Thug

CALLING ALL XLs (and Wanna-Bees)!!!

This Sunday we host the World at Brampton. Time is running out on this season, so this is a great chance for some great rugby!

The Dastardly NOBs (et al) will all pile into their NOB-mobiles and head up to try and subvert the beauty and majesty that is XL Rugby. A classic battle between dark & evil vs. shiny & good.

We are looking for a great (at least decent) turnout to ward them off. Haul out the old red-and-grey (Mark Radwanski would love to sell you a new one) and come support the side. We are hoping all our good buddies from clubs all over will be there to shore everything up.

Chef Chuck is laying out some grub, and the weather looks soggy and cool; perfect for rugby.
