A rugby joke. A Englishmen, an Irishmen and a Scotsman went into a
bar........the Welshmen was still in New Zealand! Good afternoon rugby fans
through out the Nobs World Cup World. Dave Tait is now in New Zealand and
we will hear soon from him as to what's going on. I have been asked to
remind everyone that although we have a game tomorrow in BRAMPTON AT 1PM,
there is still touch going on this Sunday in Burlington at 1pm. Rolf has
asked I let everyone know that we will be soon playing soccer on Tuesdays in
the gym. He will let us know the start date and the cost of playing
shortly. I have been told the Centaurs club house will be open both
Saturday and Sunday at 4 AM for the RWC. There has been a Ravi spotting,
but I will let Dave fill you in on that. See you on the pitch Saturday, Da

Hi Craig,

We are now ensconced in our rental house about 5 blocks from Eden Park, and
the houses around us are all festooned with flags of all of the nations
involved in the cup, but with a definite bias towards the All Blacks.

The folks in the local coffee shop and restaurant are very friendly and all
want to talk rugby, a great atmosphere for a rugby nut to be in. The papers
also full of all of the speculation. Will Richie McCaw be fit, the Welsh are
doing well, which French team will turn up etc..

Yesterday I picked up our friends, who are sharing the house, from the
airport and I ran into Ravi festooned in a Canadian sweater, looked very
happy and excited. We have agreed that we will keep in touch through email.

Last night our friends had arranged a dinner with David Pickering, and two
other Welshmen. David is the chairman of the Welsh Rugby Union, and is also
the chairman of the IRB Referees Committee. We discussed the refs for the
next two games who have been announced, but they will wait until next week
to decide on the refs for the final two games based on current form. By the
sounds of it, there is a great deal of in fighting as to who the refs will
be and the countries all have opinions on who they would like and who they
do not like. Apparently Wayne Barnes is not in anyones good books, has had a
poor World Cup, and will not be taking any further part.

Another interesting fact is that the WRU are opening the Millennium Stadium
in Cardiff for the game tomorrow, and so far have given out more than 50,000
tickets for people to watch the game on TV together. That will be quite an
atmosphere I would think. They are also going to be handing out 5,000 Welsh
flags at Eden Park tomorrow, so I guess we better get one.

Today it is nice and sunny although on the cool side, better than yesterday
morning's rain, so we are going to head into the city to take a look at the
Fan Zone near the harbour, should be interesting.

Having already met one NOB I will be on the look out for more.

Good afternoon rugby fans all across the Nobs World Cup Rugby World.  As promised we have our report from John Truman, down under.   First before we get to that we have a correction.  The game against the Staff College is on Wednesday, October the 26th at "7PM" not 1pm.  Thanks for all the calls and letters pointing that out for me; nice to see people are reading this.  This "SATURDAY" its the visiting Ottawa Senator's at 1pm in Brampton.  Speaking of the Staff College our early intelligence reports have them travelling to play us with a squad of 27 and a medical officer!  Looks like they are expecting casualties, we better have Keith on hand.   Have already heard from 8 of you who plan on playing that evening, hope to hear from more of you soon.  Let hear now from John, hope to see you on the pitch Sunday, Da Thug

Hi Craig, wow what a weekend.

First off I have to start off this report with a correction to my last one. Mt.Taranaki does indeed have snow on the top lots of it. We were looking at the wrong volcano which is not hard to do around there. In the afternoon we drove back into New Plymouth and the clouds had cleared and thee he was in all his glory about 3 times bigger than the one we were looking at. Almost a perfect cone with a white top very similar in shape to Mt Fuji. Apparently it's called a he because according to Maori legend he lost a fight to another male mountain and had to run away to Taranaki Park.

Anyway we're now in Gisborne on our cruise before heading back to Auckland for the next round. Everyone around here is convinced that Wales will make the final based on their displays and the locals love their style of play. Actually given why's happening to the All Blacks re injuries they are not sounding too confident about their own chances now. Wales did look good though and the atmosphere in the stadium was electric. I would say there were slightly more Irish there than Welsh but it didn't seem to matter from a noise perspective. It was a sea of red in the end and no-one wanted to leave especially as the Welsh team came out to do a lap of honour and thank the supporters. Too bad Ireland had to lose because they played their hearts out but the Welsh defense was outstanding. Ireland could easily have won as they were camped on Wales' line but just couldn't punch it over. You could visibly see Ireland's heads go down after that spell  and in the end they ran out of steam.

I won't comment on England's display as I guess you all saw it but the French performance was quite a surprise. I also suppose you have heard about Tuilangi's antics as he got arrested for jumping into Auckland harbor from a boat tour.

We also went to the Aus/SA game which I thought was interesting in it's own way. I secretly wanted Aus to win but had to keep quiet as we were sitting in the middle of the Bok crowd so had to keep a little quiet. Actually I ended up thinking that Aus didn't derseve to win as they were very ordinary but obviously young enough to outlast the older Boks.

So on to the semis and I can' wait. Both games should be fantastic and the local talk is that everyone is happy with the pairings as all 4 teams are  playing fast open rugby.

That's it for now. Haven't come across Tait or Ravi yet but will be meeting up with Steve Jack in Auckland. Take care all and enjoy.

Hi Craig not sure if I'm an official reporter but will send one in anyway. We made it to NZ safe and sound with no incidents along the way and made it to the Wales/Fiji game with plenty of time to spare. Actually managed to get great tickets through a friend of Nigel Thorne via a Czech Republic Rugby Club (go figure). Met up with Steve Jack and had a couple of beers before the game but had to endure the NZ/Canada hammering on the bar TVs before heading off to the stadium. Actually my son Ryan was at that game in Wellington and he said he enjoyed it despite the score. 30% of the fans there were Canadian apparently.Wales though are looking pretty strong if I have to say so but most people there were saying that wasn't the real Fiji. At the end we were willing Fiji to score something/anything as their fans there around us were great people. If you're a real Welsh fan check out the YouTube video on the Welsh Fans at the Fraser Tech rugby club in Hamilton NZ. We might have found a new favorite song! I'm sure the scene will be repeated in the Red Dragon pub when we get down to Wellington.

Currently it's 7.30 am on Wed morning and I'm sitting with a coffee in a rustic cabin type hotel room staring out at the Tasman Sea. Man what a view. Mt. Taranaki is right behind us but no snow on it, I guess the recent rain washed it all off. Weather is gorgeous today though as it was yesterday and it was a spectacular drive down over the mountains to the coast from Hamilton. It's a tough life but somebody has to do it.

Will report again after Wellington Qtr Final games. Both of those should be humdingers.

Good evening rugby fans where ever you are on this wet evening in the Nobs World.   We have finally heard from our rugby correspondent Dave Tait.  It seems he wasn't spending his time abroad drinking and carousing but being a responsible family man!  More on Dave in a bit.   The semi finals of the Rugby World Cup are drawing closer as the weekend approaches, but so are the Ottawa Senators who will be here this "Saturday" in Brampton at 1pm.   Come on out and join in.  Next Sunday the 23rd our game is now officially at Crusaders Park in Oakville at 1pm.   On the following Wednesday, the 26th. we will also be at the Cru  with a 1pm kickoff.  More on this to follow but this is a game for playing Nobs members first, so if you are planning to play in this fixture let me know.  We will be setting a roster deadline in the near future and at that point we will be inviting non-Nobs to join us to fill out the limited roster.  Do not delay in letting me know your plans.  Don't be left standing on the side lines.  It seems our mate Dave was on a bit of a holiday before he planned on heading to the World Cup.  Everyone seems to be accounted for now.  Tomorrow we will hear from John Truman and see what he has been up to.  Lets here now from Dave and see you in the Dome tomorrow and on the pitch in Brampton Saturday.  Da Thug

I have not been ignoring you honestly! 

 

I have been in the back woods of Australia, with limited internet (It is known as Woop Woop! here.) shearing sheep, trecking in the rain forest, dolphin park etc., with family. I have had little opportunity to see much rugby so far, but will be in a pub tonight and tomorrow for the quarter finals.

 

Shelley and I head over to Auckland on Tuesday for the semis and the finals, and hope to catch up with some of our NOB travellers there. Monty is staying with us one night at least.

 

I will report in when we get rugby active.

NOBS WORLD "THANKSGIVING WEEKEND SPECIAL"

Good afternoon rugby fans all across this big Nobs World of ours.  So; what’s the special?  We have finally received word from one our original reporters from the RWC, no doubt shamed by the fine work of our Welsh correspondent John Truman.  Ravi  joins us from Australia!  More on Ravi for a bit.  My people in the know tell me that our Emperor for life, his son and two Cox’s are on tour in Iceland and then on to England where they hope to take in some Premiership games.  Nothing is secret in the Nobs World.  Barry Goldberg has informed us that for those of you who want to take in the Saturday and Sunday quarter finals that the Centaurs clubhouse will be open at 8am showing Ireland/Wales first and then England / France at 10am.  Sunday it’s South Africa /Australia, followed by New Zealand/Argentina.  There’s also touch in Burlington Sunday, at 1pm.  A full day of fun.  We would also like to thank all of those who have volunteered to referee for the dome but we could use a few more.  Ok, lets here from Ravi and his RWC report. Hey Craig,

 

I had meant to drop you a line sooner but after the greeting I received by Richie & co (check out the photo) on arrival at Auckland I just got blown away and got lost in the All Black fever. Spent a day in Auckland and got to Sydney to spend the quarter final week end with some of my Aussie friends.

 

Sydney Harbor bridge and the opera house got a good taste of the NOBS shirt (see photo). Savitri and I are back in Auckland middle of next week in time for the Semis and then the finals.

 

NZ is all about rugby, they eat and drink the sport. A very passionate nation and I would love to have that passion spread to the land of the maple leaf (someday I hope), they are all obviously saddened by the loss of Dan Carter but they are confidant of the depth of the squad.

 

Enjoy the Quarters, I will be in an Aussie pub or at a downtown location to watch it on wide screen TV.

 

I will drop you a line once I get to NZ.

NOBS WORLD ACTOBER 4TH

Good afternoon rugby enthusiasts where ever you are in the Nobs World Cup Rugby World.  Haven’t heard anything from our 2 reporters in New Zealand  but  as soon as we hear something, we will fast forward it to you.  The roster for this winter’s touch in the dome is filling up, so let Jack Morrison or a member of the Nobs executive  know if you plan on playing.  Don’t be left out in the cold.  Last Sunday’s game was a true test of our rugby skills as the players faced the first cold day of the fall and a heavy dose of driving, cold rain.  While the soccer players took refuge under our balcony and huddled in the doorways, our warriors soldiered on.  Nick Park one of the more senior players was slicing and dicing the opposition like a master surgeon.   Speaking of Nick it’s his birthday this Sunday along with Tim Ellis, Chuck Schandl and yours truly.  Of 32 registered playing Nobs, 4 have their birthday on the same day.  While we’re on the subject of this Sunday; the game we were to have with the XL’S has been “CANCELLED!”  Do not despair as we will be playing touch in Burlington at 1pm.  Come one, come all.  Our next game is on “Saturday, October the 15^th in Brampton at 1pm.”  The Ottawa Senators will be in town.  Have a nice long weekend,  Da Thug
